We recently connected with Chamel Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Chamel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
When I was healing from a breakup in 2018, I realized I had an issue with accepting rejection and how I saw myself. I started a self study on my identity in Christ after getting some advice from a therapist, and it helped me heal from the breakup and other types of rejection. Studying about my identity in Christ also helped become confident with who I am and walk in my purpose

Chamel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am from Memphis, TN and have always resided here outside of going away to college to the University of TN at Chattanooga. I am an extremely optimistic and resilient woman that loves to empower herself and others through knowledge. When I graduated from college, I worked for Federal Express. It was there that my professional goals were about to change. There was this guy that worked there that I thought was cute. I didn’t tell anyone, but it turned out he was interested in me too. In our first conversation, he asked me if I was sexually active. I informed him that I was waiting until marriage, and he laughed. Then he told others on the job, and they started to make jokes about it. As a result, I said I was going to write a book for teen girls where they could read stories from women that did or didn’t wait until marriage to have sex. I wanted them to get real information about sexual activity and abstinence so that they can make an informed decision about sexual activity. I also wanted them to know that it was ok if they wanted to wait until marriage. From there, I self-published W.A..I.T (Women and Intimate Tales) where I include my own abstinence journey and started Breaking it Down with C Jackson where I was helping unmarried individuals make an informed decision about sexual activity through the stories of others. However, in 2018 a difficult breakup led me to change my mission. As I was healing from the breakup, I journaled the experience , studied my identity in Christ, and dealt with the issues I had with rejection overall. These events during my healing process led me to publish my 2nd book, Girl, Forget All That! Moving Forward After a Relationship Ends Part 1. In this book, nine women including me discuss our most difficult breakup and how we moved on to let women know they are not alone and help them heal so they can live the life God has given them to the fullest. Now, I help unmarried Christian women understand their identity in Christ, so they can have the capacity to overcome rejection, be confident in the woman God called them to be, and fulfill their God-given purpose. I am currently doing this through social media, speaking engagements, small group online and offline events, and interviews.
Have you ever had to pivot?
After experiencing a breakup, I was juggling 2 topics on my platform, abstinence and self worth. After prayer, getting advice from other entrepreneurs, and completing an entrepreneurship certificate program, I was able to get clarity on the mission for my business. Once my mission was clarified, I began to change my branding and build my content and overall appearance around this mission. Now that I was clear on purpose, things began to just flow.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by being consistent, supporting others, and collaborating with others with a similar platform. Being a part of online networking groups has also been a huge help.
