We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chalae Lindsey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chalae below.
Chalae, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I am a jewelry brand owner, makeup artist, hairstylist , and Choreographer/dancer. With jewelry making and being a dancer it really just came natural to me. For makeup artistry fx makeup to be exact I learned EVERYTHING from YouTube. With hair I went to cosmetology school and also YouTube taught me a lot of styles school did now. What I could have done to speed up the process was to believe in myself more. I doubted myself a lot so I for sure held myself back. The skills that I think are most essential is attention to details. The obstacles that stood in my way of learning more was myself. I was scared of failing and you really have to fail in order to learn and I had to realize that.
Chalae, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
What I can tell you about myself is my name is Chalae Lindsey Perry and I am a jewelry designer, makeup artist, hair stylist and choreographer. I always knew I wanted to be in a creative workspace. So I’ve always been drawn to the arts and making and creating things. The things that I do are things that I loved so I was like why not get into the field myself and when I did everything just came so natural so I knew I was meant to do it. The type of products I provide for my jewelry business is light weight but bold jewelry inspired by the 90s and y2k era. I provide earrings, chains, hair jewelry and etc. for makeup I do special fx and fantasy for music videos, short films, and photo shoots. I can do anything from fake cuts, bruises, monster, zombie, candy themed basically anything. For hair I offer everyday hair styles, braids and etc I also offer hair services for sets as well. For dance, I offer choreography for music videos and live performances. What I want potential clients to know is you will always get a unique experience and dope work when you work with me.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that I can create whatever I set my mind to. I can get inspiration from anywhere and not have limitations to what I can and cannot do. I just love having creativity.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn and still am working on is it’s okay to fail. When you fail you learn. You learn not to do something a certain way and you redo it to see what actually works. Being scared to fail limits what you can do and it hinders you from reaching your full potential. So for a long time I would think about doing things and just never do them and it Would just make me feel so stuck. So jumping out of your comfort zone can definitely help you in the long run when it come to being a creative.
