We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chad Wesselkamper. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chad below.
Chad, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I am truly grateful to earn a full-time living from performing, teaching, recording, and composing music. This process has taken years to facilitate but through a dedication to my craft along with forming important relationships, I am able to work for myself while earning a living doing what I love. Over the past couple years I have grown a deep appreciation for the city of Houston. The city itself helps to sustain my career because of the opportunities that are presented. I am grateful to perform regularly at some of the best venues in Houston. My all-time favorite venue is the Ready Room. This residency at the Ready Room allows me to compose new music, meet new musicians, and grow the music community within the city. 1 mile stone for me has been the completion of my home studio which allows me too record my own music at a high quality as well as produce for other artists. If I were to have done anything differently, it would have been investing in my personal studio faster than I have, but at the end of the day I believe that everything happens at the time in which the universe sees fit.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
First and foremost I am a classically trained musician. Performing is my most desired activity. I began studying you at the age of three and I do not plan on stopping. Besides performing I also teach, record, and compose for students and artists. Many of my clients are able to come to my home studio in order to work on whatever they need. I have invested a great deal into my studio so that I have control over any product that is being produced. I have even recorded audio books for audible via my home studio. It is very gratifying for me to work on anything that is creative nature. What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The best part about being an artist is performing your own works which are then shared with an audience. I think of music as the great unifier for all people. Music is also a spiritual healing mechanism. During the Covid lockdown era, me and two friends would play music in Menil Park in the afternoon, and so many people would come up to us and thank us for the healing that took place because of the music. Those experiences were truly rewarding for me.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My biggest goal as an artist is to unify all people through vibration. As I learn more about the nature of reality, I continue to see that vibration is everything. Vibration can be a mental state, an emotion, an image, and most importantly for me, music. I want my music to consistently raise the vibration of whoever is listening to it. I always want to create from the heart and continue to share that around the world.
