Cesar, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
A defining moment in my life in general was joining the United States Navy. I served in the United States Navy for six years. I joined when I was 18 years old. A piece of wisdom I can give the next generations : just from my own personal experience I would recommended anyone to join the military. The military gave me the leadership tools I need to handle any stressful situation, I got to travel the world and learn about other cultures.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic till I was 12 years old, I came to the United States at 12 and lived in New jersey. When my mother became a citizen, I became a citizen under her. I then Join the Navy because I felt that I did not earn that citizenship. The military brought me to San Diego where I started boxing under Juan Medina. after 10 years under him I have earn my Silver Level certification. Earning my Silver Level Certification is what I am the most proud of.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Having an open mind, not acting like you know everything in boxing. putting the time in as a volunteer at your local gym.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Giving clear instructions. having clear goals. working on your strengths. there are people who are just naturally taller, stronger, faster, more agile than others. For Example: There is no point in working speed if the athlete is flat footed, there is no point in working strength exercises if the athlete has no natural power.
