We recently connected with Cesar Rendon and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cesar, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is a monologue short film called “Within Quiet Tides”, which is available on my YouTube channel. This film serves as a prologue to my first upcoming feature, “The Silence Within”. The inspiration for “Within Quiet Tides” came from my desire to introduce Robert, a character who plays a supporting role in the feature. While writing the script, I drew on personal experiences, including the passing of my father, navigating friendships, and figuring out my future after high school. The story centers on Robert, who writes a heartfelt letter to his late father while sitting at the beach, a place where they shared meaningful moments. In this letter, Robert reflects on his struggles and dreams of pursuing filmmaking, something his father always motivated him to follow. The lead role in this short film was played by Kevin Alejandro Banegas, who did an incredible job. We also had two extras involved, and the set was a lot of fun. A memorable moment was when I asked Kevin to take Polaroid photos for a scene. It ended up taking about 30 minutes because he and the others were chatting and really enjoying themselves, which made the shoot even more special. In post-production, I collaborated with Guilherme Senff, a composer I connected with on Instagram. We had several conversations about how I envisioned the score, and he worked hard to bring it to life. When I heard the final composition, I was blown away by how powerful and emotional it was. I even told him I couldn’t imagine the film without his music, it really elevated the entire project. Once the film was released, I had the opportunity to attend my first film festival, and the response was amazing. The audience seemed to love it, and I made connections with other filmmakers who were moved by the story. Now, I’m working on my second prologue monologue short film called “Quiet Heart”, which will introduce a new character named Jose. I’m excited to continue building this world and bringing more characters to life.

Cesar, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Cesar Rendon, and I’m a filmmaker who focuses on creating emotionally resonant and relatable stories through short films. I got into filmmaking after high school, where I spent time reflecting on my passion for storytelling, particularly through visual mediums. Personal experiences like the loss of my father and navigating friendships deeply influenced the themes I explore in my films. I’m especially drawn to stories that evoke nostalgia, the complexities of relationships, and personal growth, which I believe everyone can connect with. I create a variety of film projects, ranging from short films and would love to work more on feature length films after my upcoming feature. My work focuses on relatable, heartfelt narratives that aim to evoke emotions and engage audiences on a personal level. What sets my films apart is the authenticity I bring to each project. I draw heavily from my own life experiences, which adds a layer of realism and emotional depth to my stories. Additionally, I collaborate with beginner actors and my composer who help bring my vision to life. What I’m most proud of is the ability to connect with my audience on an emotional level. My recent short film “Within Quiet Tides” received great feedback at film festivals, and it was incredibly fulfilling to see how the story moved people. It’s moments like that which remind me why I got into filmmaking, to tell stories that make people feel understood and connected. For those following my work, I want them to know that my brand is about creating films that resonate on a deep, emotional level. I’m constantly working on new projects, like my upcoming prologue short film featuring a character named Jose, and I’m excited to continue growing as a filmmaker and sharing more stories with my audience.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I started building my audience on social media by creating and sharing my short films. I promoted my projects on my accounts to gain exposure, which made a big difference in reaching new viewers. My advice for growing a social media presence would be to make use of hashtags. They help categorize your work and make it easier for people interested in that genre to find it. Also, don’t hesitate to share your projects with friends and family, as they can offer great support and help spread the word about your work.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One resource I wish I had known about before starting my filmmaking journey is film festivals. They’re an incredible way to gain exposure for your projects and receive valuable feedback from industry professionals and audiences alike. Now that I’ve experienced it, I can confidently say that film festivals are one of the best places to start for any filmmaker looking to showcase their work and make meaningful connections.
