We were lucky to catch up with Ceressa McFadden recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ceressa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage my own social media! I think it’s important to be in touch with your audience and understand your numbers. My content is lifestyle based so it’s important for me to connect with my community. This method has worked for me and it’s helped me be successful as a UGC creator.
Creating content should come natural, be true to your brand and do not follow someone else’s content because their audience was built the way they wanted. You have to build your community.
Ceressa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been in content creation since 2016, it all started with my skincare journey. I didn’t see anyone that looked like me with severe cystic acne so I decided to document my journey to healthier skin.
That journey opened up doors for me to work with Burt’s Bee’s , Ole Henriksen , Zitstika & more. My skin healed and I decided to document my daily life. I have never been a content creator with a specific niche and that’s why I’ve been able to excel with UGC! I love to do many activities. Recently I’ve picked up home cooking which aligns with me being a huge foodie!
If you are looking for bites sipes and experiences my socials are for you! I am Yelp Elite. My content brings you into a space of a new millennial mom with lots of hobbies!
I also own a sunglasses brand , I established it in 2017 after college. My brand has given me opportunities to beta test Hulu’s ads back in 2020 and my company received a grant and mentorship from Facebook in 2021! In 2021 Jackie Aina a huge influencer reposted my brand and sold out my sunglasses in less than 10 minutes. That traction made me sell out for a year after. I managed , created , printed , packed , and did everything for my company! I was blessed with a tiny human so currently the brand is on hold.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I was one of the first uber brand ambassadors in miami. I know … insane. My uber number has 43 , I met at the Uber Headquarters in Brickell many times and we were such a family! We met and learned about uber eats and my flyers changed my life! That was my first ambassador job in college and it afforded me with the money to start my sunglasses company.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing people say thank you for telling me about this. I have had people send me photos of their skin progress because of products I spoke about. Just recently someone posted about using my recipe to cook for their husband. Those moments truly matter and are rewarding.
