We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cemone Glinton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cemone , thanks for joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Am I happier as a business owner? Being in business has it’s pros and cons for sure, but there is nothing like it. It is the feeling of seeing something that was once an idea manifest itself. Getting your first client, or executing your service successfully for the first time. There is nothing like it. Does the thought cross my mind – the idea of having a job? Absolutely. It sometimes happens when things are slow or when I have a difficult client – then I remember that this is what I love and I’m doing what I love. Having a traditional job is not for me, I remember that despite minor frustrations I’ve come so far and the good outweighs the bad.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As the CEO Out of Box Weddings, Cemone Glinton is known for her best selling book, “Dear Bride, You’re Not Alone” She is currently the Events and Wedding Planning instructor at the Miami Dade College Kendall Campus – where she is responsible for certifying future events and wedding planners in South Florida. As an Accredited wedding planner from the Wedding Planning Institute, and after executing her first event in 2007 – The Garden of Eden AIDS benefit fashion show in Miami FL; she knew she had found her passion. She has years of experience as a destination wedding planner for the Paradisus resorts in the Dominican Republic and Mexico.
To Cemone working with events and weddings and specifically with brides and their families is a great opportunity for her to use her creative ideas and solutions. Cemone feels each wedding is special and she believes that to be successful you must really listen, always treat people with respect, and always stay positive. She believes that for success, attitude is equally as important as ability. She has over eight years experience in planning, consulting, directing and coordinating events/weddings. Cemones’ top priority is making weddings and Events unforgettable memories.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Reputation is everything and in this business your reputation is something you cherish. Please note: We all make mistakes and mishaps will always happen.
I think that it’s what you do in these times – do you learn from it and grown from it or do you quit and throw the blame elsewhere. What helped me build my reputation was growing from my mistakes and owning them 100%
Not to mention I put 100% into every client no matter who they are or their budget. My goal is to see the client happy and enjoying themselves and anyone who has worked with me can see that 100%.
I have my clients back and I go to bat for them.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
For me social media has been amazing BUT the one thing that has been consistent is the referrals from client and vendors. This goes back to your reputation – if you cherish your reputation your vendors and clients will send business your way every chance they get. I promise.
