We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Celina Sasso. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Celina below.
Hi Celina, thanks for joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I’m extremely grateful that I can do what I love for a living. I feel like a lot of artists’ have an advantage when living in Vegas since we’re known for entertainment. I feel it would be a lot harder for me to make income solely off of being a creative if I lived elsewhere. Before working in the arts, I did experience working in industries like food and retail. I think it’s important to have those experiences, not only to understand what it’s like but to develop character because you’re working with different people and personalities all the time. In life, we pay our dues one way or another to reach our end goal.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I knew from the time I was 5 that I wanted to be a singer. I’d spend so much time from my elementary days to my college days writing songs, singing in my mirror with a hairbrush, and Id even pretend to be Lady Gaga at times (I still do lol). I’m fortunate to have had musical resources from school which helped me progress and gave me the confidence to pursue singing as a career. Nothing is more rewarding than knowing that i’m making someone feel something through song. It reminds me that I’m doing something right and that I’m making a difference. I feel like it’s my true purpose. I never felt so myself like I do when i’m on stage. It’s the best feeling ever. Like all artists, we feel when we create. I don’t think i’m that different from everyone else since we all have the same goal and passion. However, what sets me apart is my voice and how I use it. Of course not everyone sounds the same. Im proud of my range, originality, and my musical choices. I pride myself in singing every genre at anytime and any place. I love a challenge and be able to deliver. I noticed I haven’t shared my accomplishments in the past but I’m very proud of how far I’ve come. I actually went on my first tour in 2021 where I just turned 21 and I traveled nationally performing with fellow cast mates. And this year, I was nominated Best Entertainer for the Silver State Awards. It all feels like a dream! I can’t express my gratitude enough for these experiences.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Resilience is something i’m developing currently. The journey won’t be linear as I’ve learned. However, I don’t regret the negative experiences i’ve gone through. I always hear “23 is the worst year” and for me, it really is. It’s like a quarter life crisis. Always asking myself if i’m doing things right or thinking every inconvenience is the end of the world. Things I thought I had figured out, weren’t figured out. I think those experiences are necessary in order to be prepared for much worse and actually handle the situation at hand properly and being resilient. I don’t think I want to share my stories since they’re extremely personal to me, but I was drawn to this question due to what I’m battling at the moment.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My late grandma. My second mom, basically. She always loved how I sang and she’d would drive me to every rehearsal and audition when I couldn’t drive. My grandpa did too. They were so supportive of my dreams and believed in me. So when I sing I feel like I can communicate with them through song.
