We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Celia Perez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Celia below.
Celia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I was able to start over, I will definitely do more research and budget planning. I went straight into this business without knowing what competition was out there. I expected as soon as I promoted my business I would have all my family and friends purchasing my products, but it sure wasn’t like. I started doing pop events and shows, and met new people. New customers, loyal customers.
Celia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am married with two beautiful daughters, one will be 14 years old another my youngest 2 years. I have work for a corporate office for about 11 years now. I started my side business about a year ago after watching tons and tons of tik tok videos. After seeing so many amazing detailed images for shirts, I wanted to make them. My husband encouraged me to start my small business. He helped me by motivating me to create designs and meeting new people. I was always the one not wanting to meet new people because I was shy. But after doing pop up events and shows, I got the courage to speak to people and introduce them to my products, t-shirts, tumblers, hats, Koozies, Libby cups. Offer discounts and specials. I built relationships with them so they felt comfortable reaching anytime! Once I built my clientele, and After doing research, I saw their was a high demand for this type of product. So I started up Modern Pose 360 Photo Booth. This Photo Booth does a 360 circle video without you even moving off the platform. We did some free events to promote the business and from there meet new people. We also got recommendations from my current customers from M & E Co. One I am very grateful is the loyal customers. They are the ones I built some really cool relationships with and because of them they keep us in business. They recommend us to other friends and family and we couldn’t be anymore blessed!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I for one have always had a small circle of friends. So when I created social media it was very hard to put myself, the businesses out there. But I grew confidence and started posting daily. I started to post videos on how I created my product. I would promote sells, discounts and clearances. Also I would post events I would be at and times/dates. Also at events I regardless of them purchasing my products I engage conversations. Once I did that, I would provide them my business cards with all my social media and contact information. Sometimes those same customers that didn’t purchase something then would purchase or inquire about something later.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Communication! Clients want to feel like they are someone special to you. They don’t want to feel like just any regular customer. When something is wrong with a product, I want them to feel comfortable to reach and see what options there is replace or repair. I don’t want my customers to feel like I’m just trying to a buck off them. Of course any sell is a blessing but I want to feel like they can come back!
