We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ced Wynez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ced below.
Ced , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Talk to us about building your team? What was it like? What were some of the key challenges and what was your process like?
I’ve been in the music business for over 15 years. I’ve always wanted to either work for a major label or eventually start my own record label. It has been a dream of mines since I can remember. With a few bumps and road blocks along the way, I did start my own record label 80 Grand Music. Along side Kirvin Santiago my business a partner. Our team is small. Operated by 3 individuals. Including myself and our head A&R Jay Pitt. We have 2 artists we partnered with and signed.
Kirvin and I used to be under another label together here in Atlanta. That’s how we met. We worked well together. We had the same vision, business sense, and overall a commitment to the business of music. After the label we was under folded, it took us another 3 years to finally come together and get things rolling with our label. Then right after that we signed Hope Trilly a young woman hip hop artist from Queens, Ny. The process took sometime because we wanted to do everything right.
Then we added Jay Pitt to the team. I met Jay Pitt through my wife. Great man, knows talent and comes with a lot of knowledge of the music business. He brought in our second artist CountryDaGod out of Madison, NC. Now we are currently working on signing our third artist.
The only thing I would’ve done differently was I should’ve started the label sooner.

Ced , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m from Miami, Florida born and raised. I am a father of six (3 boys 3 girls). Married man with 3 wonderful step children. I started in the music industry n 2006 when I was living in Savannah, Ga. I am music producer, sound designer, audio engineer, and content creator. I’m a radio host and creative director for Piff Radio. I got into the industry mainly because of my brother. Brief story, my younger brother who was a saxophonist was making beats one day. I saw how easy it was and told myself I can do that. With countless research about producing music, the music industry, I perfected my craft and the rest is history.
I have my own beat production company beats by ced production. We sell beats to clients in the hip hop urban genre, We provide quality beat production and resources to help artists on their journey to become successful in the music industry.
My proudest moment is starting two companies and have artists put their beliefs in our brands so much that they entrusted us to help guide their careers in the music industry.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I had to learn is learn about the music business as much as possible. Because this is a tough business. And there are a bunch people in this business that will take advantage of you if you let them. Education is definitely a key component. I had a publishing deal on the table a while back. Luckily, I was smart enough to seek a lawyer because of this 15 page contract I had to read through and I didn’t understand a lot of the verbiage in the deal. Long story short, if I would’ve signed that deal, I probably would’ve still be in that deal. So that lead me to take a more proactive approach in learning the music business.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Yes, I would highly recommend this book ‘All You Need To Know About The Music Business” by Donald Passman. It’s literally the bible for the music industry. This a must have book for all music entrepreneur. This book helped me understand the music business a lot more and a lot quicker. This book helped me save a lot of time and money. YouTube is also another great source. There are countless videos, tutorials, and eBooks you can find to help you learn more about the music business.
