Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cecy Martinez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Cecy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
For me, it’s quite simple! All I have to do to be successful is to visualize myself where I want to be… I habitually practice the law of positive attraction, and I try to surround myself with people who are positive thinkers. I have learned that for dreamers, anything is possible.
I believe I have a simple but realistic formula to achieve success. It’s a formula that has always worked for me. Before embarking on a new business endeavor, I ask myself if my new mission meets my criteria.
1) Can I imagine my dream as real?
2) Do I have the knowledge / skill needed to develop and execute the strategies needed to succeed?
3) Do I have the perseverance necessary to overcome every obstacle that will come my way?
If the answer to these three questions is yes, then I embark on a journey that will lead me to success.
Cecy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I graduated from the University of Florida and went to work for Bristol Myers, a global, Fortune 500 company in the pharmaceutical industry. I quickly fell in love with the field… and after a few years, I started my own business. Now, twenty-five years later, my company, The Med Ed Group, Inc., has organized hundreds of medical conferences for pharmaceutical companies all around the world. I am humbled by the relationship I have developed with pharmaceutical companies, clinicians, and medical societies worldwide, which I admittingly attribute to my company’s success.
However, I always had a passion for handbags and my dream was to one day design them… One day in Milan, while walking through some of the world’s most famous shopping streets, I had a “vision” that my handbags, too, would one day be featured among them. It was then that I decided to embark on a new journey that would take me on the ride of my life. I founded my new company, Cecy Handbags.
The luxury handbag industry is very competitive, so I knew I had to create exclusive handbags, made of the finest materials, and handcrafted by the world’s leading artisans. I went out to meet them… Over the past several years, I have worked closely with the top-label handbag and metal manufacturers in Italy. This led me to some of the world’s greatest artisans here in the USA, where I now produce most of my handbags. I am thrilled because this has allowed me to expedite the production of my handbags without compromising their quality.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Through my career in the pharmaceutical industry, I had the opportunity to work with Madison Avenue public relation firms. This experience has given me a clear understanding of the importance of public relations to the success of a company. I know what the press needs, and I am able to write my own press releases and stories that I pitch to media. Not only has this resulted in important local and national publications for Cecy Handbags, but the stories published are accurate representations of our message.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The hardest thing to do is sometimes the easiest thig to do… it’s to start over. After a couple of failed attempts of trademarking my logo, I started over with a more complex design, and it turned out to be more creative and unique. The final logo I designed for my handbags is a union of my favorite flower, the calla lily, a heart, and an infinity sign. It symbolizes peace and infinite love…feelings which are central to my brand’s culture. It was so complex, that the United States Patent and Trademark Office approved my trademark in record speed. I have proved to myself over and over that sometimes mistakes pay off. After receiving a trademark on my logo, I started another long battle over acquiring the rights to my name, Cecy. Today, my company, Cecy Inc. owns the rights to the peace and infinite love logo, the name, Cecy, and the Cecy.com, all adding legitimacy to the Cecy Handbags brand.
