Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cecily Breaux. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cecily, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
I created my show Breaux Show as a space for every comedian. Including people who have always wanted to try standup, but have been too scared to try. I don’t blame them! I’ve been at those shows and have felt a lack of support and inclusivity. We’re all out here pursuing a life in comedy so why not have a space where everyone can feel encouraged? Why does it have to be a competition? If comedians are lending their time and audiences are there to support then we all should simply be having a good time. That was my goal with my show. Book comedians who people already love and new comedians people will love, all while creating a supportive environment for everyone to shine.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Cecily Breaux I’m an actor, comedian, and writer. I went to USC and bravely got my BFA in acting. During my time in college I was on an improv team that paved the way for my time post graduation. What started as something I did for fun became an outlet to express myself creatively and inspire my writing. Instead of waiting for a phone to ring for auditions, I could do improv shows or create characters for comedy shows. It kept my brain active while giving me time in front of audiences to hone my voice.
I decided to take it further and create my own monthly comedy show – Breaux Show as a way to work on my producing skills as well have a deadline for myself each month to have new material. I wanted my show to be a place where comedians felt supported and encouraged to try something new. I also wanted my show to be a place where people who’ve never tried standup could get up and have their time to shine. I want to set up my lineup to feel their best. Inclusivity is my goal. Breaux Show is coming back Jan.25th @ 8:30PM at Oeno Vino. Come one, come all!
Now that I’ve been hosting my show for over a year I feel ready to share my one woman show – “Attaching” Coming soon in 2024 <3

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, Cecily heyy, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is feeling connected to others. Whether it’s through reading a play and seeing a new world I would have never known or performing live with an audience. I love people’s stories. I think it’s amazing what humans go through and still persist. Their resilience. It inspires me to keep going. I feel like we’re all in it together and grow closer through sharing. It’s vulnerable to share! That’s why it’s so rewarding when people connect to what I’ve performed.

Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
During the pandemic it seemed like performing was something I would never get to do again. I thought “Ohh it’s all tiktok now so better jump on in.” And that’s great! We love tiktok, but I really missed doing live comedy. I missed being around people and connecting. I was co-hosting a comedy show before the pandemic and after the pandemic that show was no more. I wanted to bring back a comedy show, but kept thinking,”Well it certainly couldn’t be just me up there hosting.” I felt after everything we had all been through who was I to take up space? But the pandemic also gifted me with numbness (holler!) So I ultimately decided to go forward with doing my own show because why not. Don’t we deserve it?
