We recently connected with Cecilia Tripp and have shared our conversation below.
Cecilia, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I love the story of how my business name came to be. I had a lifelong friend in town visiting. We went out to breakfast at a neighborhood cafe in Studio City, CA and I confessed to her that I was thinking about starting my own business. I had been doing social media at a small production company and was starting to have more and more people ask if I was doing it professionally and if they could hire me. It felt like something was pulling me in the direction of starting my own business but I had no idea where to start.
She suggested we walk around the neighborhood after we finished and just brainstormed what it would look like running my own company. We daydreamed about potential clients, colors I loved, what would set me apart and then we just started putting words together to see how they sounded. Things like “yellow door studios” and “garden bed creative” until we got to a couple combinations that really resonated with me. At the time I lived off of Laurel Canyon Blvd in Los Angeles so when we paired Laurel Canyon with Creative I felt my whole world light up.
We ran home to see if the domain was available on GoDaddy, bought it, and the rest is history!

Cecilia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’d love to share more about my story! I actually fell into the world of Social Media and web design accidentally. I went to school to get my acting degree and moved out to Los Angeles to pursue that career full time in 2024. As most actors do, I had several day jobs to keep myself financially stable and one of those positions was as an Executive Assistant to an actress at her small production company. At the time she was getting ready to launch a blog so I started learning everything I could about launching a successful blog, how to use social media to promote it, and the best practices to use to bring all the pieces together.
I loved it. It felt like my background in storytelling and social media fit perfectly together.
I started to have more and more people reach out to me for advice on how to grow their own social pages and before I knew it I was getting ready to launch my company. In 2018 I took the leap, quit my day jobs, and have been working on Laurel Canyon Creative ever since!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think the two major pivots I had to make in my career (and in my life) were when I had my two kids. For so long my business had essentially been my child so when my first came along learning how to balance the two was exceptionally difficult. I didn’t take a maternity leave (BIG mistake) and didn’t have the proper support in place for my business to help make that transition as smooth as possible.
By the time I found out I was pregnant with my son I knew my number one priority needed to be finding a team to help me keep the business moving so I could take a proper break. I was fortunate enough to find an incredible assistant who allowed me to take a three month break from my work. Without her I’m not sure Laurel Canyon Creative would have survived that second transition and it is because of her that I found the time, energy, and motivation to keep the business going after I returned!

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The biggest thing that has built my reputation is how deeply I care for each of my clients and the work that they are doing. I have been fortunate enough to work with many incredible people and businesses that continue to support me and refer me to people they know. I work hard to make sure each and every one of my clients feels seen, heard, and taken care of while also providing them a space that is collaborative and still gives them a voice in what they are sharing on socials.
