We were lucky to catch up with Cecilia Rubiera recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cecilia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My love for balloons did not come over night. It all started in 2020 during Covid when times fell hard for me and caused me to be homeless. Being a teacher back then we had our VPK graduation and my boss wanted balloon decor. I reached out to my friend from high school that I knew had a balloon decor business . She came to set up and as I was watching her I realized wow this looks pretty easy to do. She gave me some advice to follow and as soon as I clocked out, I headed to the store and to buy some practice balloons. I watched a lot of YouTube videos and began practicing in my motel room. While practicing I would realize how therapeutic it was, as well as how I would zone out feeling like I wasn’t in the situation that I was in. I literally would re arrange the whole motel room to practice making balloon garlands and columns. I continued practicing and about 1 month after I came up with my name, made my own logo and booked my first client. Ever since that day I’ve been so blessed to be a balloon artist and celebrated my 3 year anniversary September of 2023.

Cecilia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a full-time mom with a 9 to 5 job at a popular bakery and of course a Latina balloon stylist here in Tampa, Florida. As stated before I’ve been in business 3 years and my plan is to be a full time balloon stylist.
The one thing I’m most proud of is being a mom. Being able to show my son that you can do and have whatever you want when not only do you put god first but also not giving up on what you love.
As a Tampa Balloon Stylist, I specialize in transforming spaces with an artistry that transcends occasions. My craft includes mesmerizing balloon arches, columns, bouquets, walls, and beyond. Balloons, often associated solely with birthdays, hold the power to elevate any event. From Baby Showers , Holiday events, and Corporate gatherings exuding professionalism, to somber yet dignified Funerals, and the romance of Weddings. My craft isn’t just about inflating balloons; it’s about breathing life and ambiance into spaces, reflecting the unique essence of each event. With a keen eye for detail and an unwavering commitment to excellence, I aim not just to decorate but to elevate. Transforming spaces into captivating experiences that leave a lasting impression.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I’ve built my clients on social media by being persistent in being active. Not only am I posting different videos and pictures of my work but I’m also engaging with other stylists work either by liking their content, reposting and even commenting on their work. The big thing with social media is not falling for the “ she/he is doing the same thing so I can’t “ My advice to other people starting with the social media presence is to believe in yourself even if you feel like no one’s in your corner. You can’t expect people to believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself . Be persistent and don’t give up especially when it’s something you love.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Once, I had a client’s event where everything that could go wrong did. I booked a vendor that was suppose to bring an important piece of the set up but she never showed up and even blocked my number , but I quickly improvised, creating a balloon garland on the spot. It really taught me that resilience is key in turning challenges into opportunities for creativity when it’s the only option you have.
