Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cecilia Fabian. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cecilia , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My business began from deep sadness, depression, and war. I was born in El Salvador, and raised in Los Angeles. As an adult I relocated from Los Angeles to New York, where I worked as a Audio and Film Producer for a Language Service Company. My office was a crossed The World Trade Center and on September 11th I was absent at work. I was blessed and alive! I should have been extremely happy, but instead I felt sad and depressed. As a survivor my Life changed for ever! Coping with depression, I picked crochet as my therapy. I continue with my new passion and found support with my family. They wore my crochet creations and attracted many clients. I decided to start my own business and developed my own brand. I began a collection of exclusive hand crafted crochet and knitted wear, call Chila for Fun.
Chila for Fun is a conscious brand…”No Pollution and No exploitation”! My mission is to bring awareness of our ecological system and a total review on Labour exploitation around the world. I work hard for my brand to create a Fun and Sexy collection. My brand grows seasonally as I am highly influenced by Fashion in NYC. I feel that my mission within my brand is to maintain a level of love and happiness in every piece. The mixture of colors an materials is highly presented in my brand as well as creative technics and innovative designs. I hope you enjoy my brand and enforced your ethical values.
“OFTEN IMITATED BUT NEVER DUPLICATED”.

Cecilia , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Cecilia Fabian creator and funder of “Chila for Fun”. My crochet and knitting designs are exclusive and available for the whole family. Chila for Fun also include a one of a kind reconverted Denim collection. My designs include ready to wear, couture, and avant-garde. We have custom made capabilities and we take orders seasonally (winter pieces in the summer and summer pieces in the winter). Hypoallergenic awareness as well as testing products is crucial for my brand, I want my customers to be happy and feel happy.
Residing in NYC has been a tremendous explosion of trends in fashion, music, and art; therefore, Chila for Fun inspiration covers Love, Happiness, Culture, and Art! Positive energy and happiness with in the brand will help you improve your health, relationships, love, and life in general.
I feel that my artistic designs allow me to be involve with the new generation and in many cases even becoming a mentor. Bright colors and bold creations maintain a young and vibrant atmosphere. I also feel connected to the older generation since crochet is a traditional hand craft with roots dating back to the 16th century!! I want my customers to enjoy my brand and feel the great energy with in.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My Label “Chila for Fun” was created during a very fragile time in my life. I was a brand new mother facing and experiencing the attacks of 911 in NYC. 2,996 deaths in a matter of hours! As I cared for my newborn, I did not go to work that day; 911 was detrimental to my mind, spirit and soul! I felt immovable. I felt paralyzed… like there was no hope for love or happiness. I felt like humanity was dead and one can only hope for a resolution! It was then when I self thought to crochet, time continued and crochet became part of my routine. I spent time creating my brand and developing my ideals when suddenly I felt my mental disappointments and social dissolutions repairing by the whole idea of creating something meaningful and passion-able. Chila for Fun will not give up on creating something unique and authentic. I will continue to believe in a positive and logical state of mind that will become contagious and fashionable!

Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
I grew up in a business environment, my parents owned a store and a bakery. Growing up in Los Angeles I studied Social Science and Art , while my sister Studied International Business. Owning a business seem very natural to me, but having the money to invest has been very difficult. I figured that by starting my business with a product that I can create on my own it would give me control to develop my brand at a lower cost. I didn’t have to hired a manufacture or depend from someone else to make my product. I definitely work day and night to create my brand especially since handmade pieces take a lot of effort and time. I researched and learned more about fashion, then I realized how important being couture and exclusive was for my brand. I invested funds in materials, permits, licensing, packaging, office equipment, brand development, website, etc. I was blessed enough to have experience in customer service, marketing, and production. It has been a tremendous experience to developed a brand where I am the main motivator and promoter as if I am working for my boss. My sister is a Chief Operating Officer in LA and she usually guides me to make smart business decisions. I am currently working on handmade mass production which gives me joy to create job opportunity for others and I foresee a productive future.
