We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cearra Tutt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cearra below.
Cearra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
The legacy i am hoping. to build is one filled with purpose and giving back. One song I like to think of when focusing on what i want to be remembered for is “I Was Here” by Beyonce. A line from the song that drives and motivates me is “That I gave my all, did my best, Brought someone some happiness, Left this world a little better just because…I was here”. I thrive in being remembered for more than just someone who did hair and nails, but for a woman who touched hearts and left individuals filled with joy. I want to leave my marks on not just paying clients, but men, women, children and families who can not afford my services but also wish to be pampered. Outside of just offering my services based on my business, I want to also create a safe space for my community by serving and giving back.
Cearra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
It all started in elementary school, yes I said it, elementary school. And no I’m not talking about some ping tails with bo bos. But legit cornrows on my neighbor’s daughter every two weeks and then in fifth grade I started doing my own hair using hair extensions and doing box braids on myself! I knew then I had a talent and so did people around me. Fast forward to high school, I was doing my friend’s hair for a very very very low amount even sometimes free but at the time definitely was not taking it serious. Fall of 2016 rolled around and I entered the chapter of my life where I was attending college. The prestigious Hampton University! My HBCU! I had blown through the money my great aunt had given me and realized I needed things like more clothes and food and anything! So I decided to not ask my parents for help but instead make my talent into a business! Ugh! That turn out was better than I expected it and it picked up super quick! I was trying very reasonable and cheap prices and the college students ate it up! I started self-teaching myself on the new trend hairstyles too and eventually became one of the most booked stylists on campus and off-campus too!
After a while, my prices went up right along with the value of my work! From getting reached out to do local shows and to even having my own photo shoot. After leaving college early I decided to get my own studio space but sharing with someone else. The first time was for the summer break of college and then I left once I had to return and then after leaving for good I got my very own studio space just for me on my own! Fast forward I ended up self-teaching myself another business venture which was doing acrylic nails! That took off and I was able to have my own braiding studio/nail studio! Fast forward some more time I am currently still doing both with more focus on my nail business and I am now doing Custom Press on nails! Very sturdy, sassy, beautiful and last longing! I also offer character sets where I hand draw any character you want! One or more! Right now that side of my business is truly taking off! My hair business is called Royalty Hair by Ce’ and my nail business is called Nailed by Royalty with the entire thing being Royalty Styles by Ce’!! One day I do hope to own my own salon offering nails and hair and even having a beauty supply store connected to it owned by myself as well!
I am currently in the process of becoming an influencer/celebrity nail tech and hairstylist.
Alongside doing braids on anyone with short, long, thick or thin hair, I also serve hair-loss clients suffering from things like traction alopecia and even just regular hair loss. I also serve all ethnicities and races all ages with many different textures; which I do believe those are big things that set me apart from many stylists especially my age. With many stylists and nail. techs simply only doing their services in their homes or shops, I also travel to different cities and states to service my clients!
I am dedicated to providing the best services to everyone that comes in my chair! I will continue to expand my horizon and learning new styles, new designs for nails and new techniques!
To my future clients, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Social media for sure but more specifically, Facebook and Marketplace. Joining different groups related to what services i offer is a big one due to the fact you have people in these groups requesting nail techs or braiders for specific styles and you are able to contact them or people can even recommend you.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I run different promotions/ specials month to month. I also offer discounted prices when clients recommend people to me and they book.
