We recently connected with Cayla & Taylor Ohler and have shared our conversation below.
Cayla & Taylor, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The DryOak is a boutique style bottle shop nestled in downtown Covington, Louisiana.
The DryOak was born from one of our founders, Taylor and his personal battle with alcohol addiction. We knew what was missing for him, our family, and the community we reside in. Our mission is to elevate sobriety and change the narrative behind addiction. We want to create an inclusive environment for those of all walks of life, no matter where they may be in their sobriety journey.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are Taylor and Cayla, husband and wife, turned business partners. During Taylor’s addiction with alcohol, we noticed the lack of inclusivity and options available to those in recovery, sober curious, or just simply wanting a break from the booze. In a time and place where alcohol is consumed at an alarming rate, we knew there had to be a better way. What could we provide that one, would keep Taylor on track, and two provide an entire new way for those who choose not to drink?
Why is it that abstaining from alcohol has such a stigma behind it, but consuming it doesn’t? Alcohol is the only drug where you can simultaneously be judged for consuming too much, and also not enough. In order for those needing to escape the temptations, a Shirley Temple wasn’t going to cut it. In the Fall of 2023 we launched our company providing a sober social experience. An experience that was elevated, inviting, and appealed to the masses. Due to the response from our community, the events were highly sought after, but the common question remained… ” Where can I purchase this for myself?” We knew there was more work to be done.
We scoured the country for the best nonalcoholic options. Beverages that are tasteful, purposeful, and functional. These products have quality ingredients and are socially acceptable. The DryOak – Dry (nonalcoholic) and Oak (a southern tree deeply rooted and able to withstand life’s storms) was born.
From the best nonalcoholic champagne to nonalcoholic bourbon, beers, functional seltzers, and everything in between. Find additional items such as lifestyle merch, barware, and community support. We want this to be a space where you come as you are, and you feel accepted. You feel like it’s just as “cool” to abstain from alcohol as it is to consume it!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My journey began from a very young age. I grew up in a city where drinking is so heavily accepted and from that young age I was drawn in. There are so many stories from my journey where I fell and had to get back up. Only to later fall into the same trap again and again. It came to a point where I just couldn’t do it anymore. I was extremely exhausted. One Sunday at church I finally decided to give it one last try. I asked God to take it all and I surrendered. That day in church I felt him take the chains of addiction away. He began to lead me where he had planned all along. I knew it was my purpose to go through those fires so I could go back and save others!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
We have had many pivots as a couple, and a family. Especially during his days with alcohol. It took a huge toll on me as a wife, and a mother. Constantly trying to keep a good face when I knew what others didn’t. What I can say is this, no matter what struggles you may be facing, take a breath and pivot. That pivot will lead you to greater places. Don’t compare your story or journey to anyone else’s. If someone looks like they, have it all together, it’s a lie. When you become vulnerable and embrace your struggles that is when true healing begins!
