We recently connected with Cayla Humphreys and have shared our conversation below.
Cayla, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you manage your own social media?
I manage the company’s social media, and online store without any help. It gets tough at times, and i’ve thought about hiring a media team to take on some of the workload, but it takes a lot to trust someone with your business.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m the CEO and Creative Director for STRAPLANTA STREETWEAR. The clothing brand is deeply rooted in ATL’s underground and mainstream hip-hop culture. Though Atlanta’s gun violence rate continues to grow, this brand is my way of educating people on the proper way to use of firearms as well as brushing people up on their Atlanta history. The brand takes ideas from local atliens, and I put a spin on those ideas to make a design worthy enough to wear. VoyageATL interviewed me in 2021, and I was just getting started. A year later, i’m beginning to establish myself around the city, and make long-lasting business relationships. I’m proud of my progression, and as I stated earlier..the going gets rough but you can’t give up. Your time will come.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
My customers and I keep a close relationship because I want them to feel comfortable when bringing situations up to me. If their merchandise is defected or torn, they reach out and I make it my priority to get a new piece out to them. I believe that building a rapport with your customers will keep them coming back and also make them spread the word about your customer service. Customer Service is KEY!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
My business was established during covid, and I saved some of my relief money to fund my business. As covid began to be less of a threat to some, I was forced to return to work. In my previous interview, I was let go from my job of two years. Present day, I now work full-time again with a phenomenal company, and am able to balance work and life.
