We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cathy Raymonvil a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Cathy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To become successful it takes a lot of hard work. I’ve been taught that hard work pays off and I still believe it till this day. Work can mean a lot of things, overcoming fear, self motivation, staying focus, and being comfortable with being uncomfortable all take some type of work to be successful. In my experience as an Entrepreneur who strives for success, I had to learn a lot about myself and work on different strategies to change certain things about me that came with being a business owner. I was always afraid of public speaking, but in my profession I had to learn how to speak publicly to represent my business the way I wanted people to perceive it. Being motivated despite encountering difficulties in my journey was very hard because there were times that I wanted to give up. I had to learn and work on how to keep striving for my goals no matter what. Being comfortable with being uncomfortable is another task that I really had to work on. Using strategies to overcome that feeling of being uncomfortable helped with that process. So yes, in my experience, It takes a lot of work to be successful. Without doing the work, slaking off on what needs to be done, you will notice the lack of progression in achieving your goals.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Cathy Raymonvil, I am the owner and founder of Napstylez a Healthy Hair Care Salon and advocate for promoting confidence through hair. I am also a Certified Trichologist specializing in Hair Loss and Scalp disorders as well as a Certified Cosmetologist specializing in healthy hair care. I have always been a hairstylist since a child playing with my dolls. I’ve had other interests growing up but hair was always a passion for me. Being able to switch up my hair in different styles gave me the confidence I needed to feel good about myself. So why not share that confidence with my clients. I have always wanted to help others feel good about themselves and hair is the perfect outlet. Being a part of helping someone build confidence is so rewarding. Its like making a difference in the world one style at a time. In the Hair industry trends are always evolving one thing that sets me apart is maintaining my passion for healthy hair, making sure when my clients see a trend I educate them on what’s best for them to maintain a healthy environment for their hair. I also help them to understand the causes of certain issues that may occur on their scalp and give recommendations on how to treat and sooth those issues. I am mostly proud of my growth in the industry. I came from servicing clients from home to a small suite, to owning my first storefront on my own. I am now serving my community in ways I could have never imagine. From making my own hair care products to treating hair and scalp disorders, and building relationships with medical professionals (Dermatologists & Nutritionist). I also have a line of satin bonnets and Loc Socks that I’ve just launched that helps to protect your hair from breakage. I took the leap of faith to pursue my career full time 6 years ago and by the grace of God I am still going and growing. The Napstylez brand is here to teach, boost and motivate your confidence one hairstyle at a time.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
The way I keep in touch with my clients and foster brand loyalty is building an email list and keeping up with my monthly news letters. I actually invested in a brand strategist that helps with keeping up the momentum. She keeps up with my social media as well as my website. I always update my site with different themes monthly to keep my clients attention. I also send mass text messages to inform my clients of changes if need be. During certain holidays I like to give gifts of appreciation. It helps to let my clients know that I am grateful for their support.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
There is always a time that comes up in life where you have to pivot. I had to make a decision in my life to where I had to decide to live life my way and not worry about the opinion of others. I became a single mother and decided to quit my job of 10 years in the education system to become a hairstylist full time. It was not easy but I decided to take a leap of faith scared out of my mind with God on my side. It was a decision till this day I have never regretted. I haven’t looked back since. Its been 6 years and I’m still going. I say this to say sometimes in life you have to come to the realization that you hold the key to your journey. Its up to you to unlock that door.
