We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cathy Montgomery a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Cathy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
CMD Event Design and Production LLC’s mission is to provide customized event design, photography and videography services that produce elegance beyond boundaries. There are many facets to planning an event. By providing our services in one package, this allows the client time to focus on planning and implementing a successful event.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve earned a degree in Business Administration and Marketing. In addition to being an event designer, I’m also a professional seamstress and clothing designer and interior designer. The inception of CMD came about as a result of myself (the creative visionary), Marie (the knowledgable and informed expressionist which complements her Business Degree specializing in advertising and marketing) and Darlene (the technical digital wizard of the photos and videography exhibited in our finished products) teaming up to provide holiday and seasonal decorating services for our church and ultimately providing design, photography and videography services for our Pastors wedding and reception. CMD’s recent projects completed include a Winter Wonderland theme baby shower, an Intimate 40th theme Birthday Celebration and a Retirement Celebration, just to name a few.
What I’m most proud of are the facts that my professional seamstress skills allow me to produce specialized drapes, chair covers and tablecloth coordination’s that may not be available as retail options. I’m also proud of CMD’s holistic approach to providing three services (event design, photography and videography) in one package; which gives our clients more time to focus on planning their successful event. This is what sets CMD apart from other event design firms.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is not only experiencing my clients vision coming to life but also exceeding their expectations.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
IWED | The Institute of Wedding & Event Design. I’ve successfully completed webinar session topics such as acquiring vendors, budgeting and pricing projects and preparing and presenting quotes to clients.
