We recently connected with Cathryne Martell and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Cathryne thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
When my husband and I got married back in April of 2016 my wedding pictures came back and my dress needed steaming and I disliked every picture in my gown, I did research on steaming and noticed there wasn’t anyone local to provide these services the idea clicked. “This is how I can make sure a bride never feels the way I do” about their wedding photos.
Cathryne , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My mother in law does set design and costume designing as her profession and when I was welcomed into the family with warm arms she taught me her trade. We would sit and work for hours together and was taught from a very simple stitch to complex work for set design and costuming. During this period I worked my business as a “Garment steamer” and built a very solid business with the Support of my Dear friend Lisa and her Facebook group “Official Disbrides and Disprides” that supports local vendors. From 2016-2019 I focused on building a good reputation in Central Florida as a garment steamer and providing in room decorating. When Covid hit in early 2020 my contractor job as a event planner was released and I was no longer required to work those events. At this time I really sat down and thought about what are the next steps for my business? Is Covid the end? I wasn’t ready to give up I was ready to continue growing as a business. With my time no longer needed focused on others businesses I had time to focus on mine and use my skills for myself for the first time.
With the support of past and current couples, friends and family I started “Martell Event Services”
In late 2020 we began
Providing
•Day of coordination services
• Garment Steamings
•In room decor setup
This was a huge step and is something I’m so proud of, being a day of coordinator allows me to really bond with our couples during their planning process they become family by the time the big day is finally here!
Being a day of coordinator allows us to work on the couples behalf with outside vendors such as floral, chair and event rentals. As well as photographers, videographers and others from all around the world. And to put the couples personal items and touches
Out for their big day.
We also assist with helping the couple/guests & vendors stay on top of schedule.
I think what really sets us apart from others and why we have the success we have is my staff and I truly put our entire hearts into our jobs, this is something we’re all passionate about. We want our couples to have the day they imagined and more. We find joy in bringing extra touches of magic and care in our work everyday.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
One thing I’m very proud of is I’ve never had to pay for advertising. In todays current world social media is king. I find being very active on social media and keeping up with current trends helps me do this. Tiktok and Instagram reels I get several inquires from those. I make sure to build a good bond with other vendors and we will all tag each other in these. Being 26 I feel
Like keeping up with current trends and being on social media is really the best way to advertise. I advertise myself my business and staff. Giving “behind the scenes” views and then showing videos of “before & after” let’s these viewers feel a personal touch with you and your business.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
When I say my staff and I love what we do, we truly mean that. We wouldn’t be here with a negative attitude about weddings and events. We all are uniquely ourselves and pride ourselves upon that. When we first chat with our couples we’re usually speaking anywhere from twelve months to four months before event day. This gives us time to get to know our couples and build a bond with them before event day. They become family and we want them to have the best day possible, we want every vision to come true. We’re also able to be stern and flexible where needed.
And that friendship doesn’t end after event day, we will still chat and be active with our couples on social media. We watch their families grow and we enjoy every second of it and have for six years!
