We recently connected with Catherine Pick and have shared our conversation below.
Catherine, appreciate you joining us today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
I LOVE to travel and often try to arrange ceremonies of all types while on vacation!

Catherine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Wedding Officiant based in Central Florida, cat lover, dinosaur enthusiast, proud Hufflepuff and travel lover. Born and raised in Florida, I spent the year after high school traveling the lower 48 states and Vancouver Canada. After that I lived in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota for a few years before coming back to Florida in 2005.
After officiating a friends ceremony in 2013 I was bit by the wedding bug and started officiating ceremonies in March of 2015 and I’ve been on a roll ever since. As of August 2022 I have officiated more than 1000 wedding ceremonies around Florida and beyond; including a vow renewal on the canals of Jordaan Amsterdam, a vow renewal on the shores of Sylvan Lake & many plural along the Needles Highway in Custer State Park South Dakota, and an elopement on Knik Glacier in Palmer Alaska.
I LOVE marrying all varieties of couples and proudly do not discriminate against any couple! My absolute favorite part of officiating is spending time getting to know each couple, learning their love story, writing a custom and personal ceremony script for them, then being such an important part of one of the most special days of their life. I love that no two weddings are the same; each unique and special no matter how intimate or grand.
My ceremonies have been described as non-traditional, upbeat and fun. But serious enough to not make anyone think we are making a joke of it. I love scripting humor based on funny and awkward moments that have happened throughout my couples’ relationship. I enjoy giving a shout out to the pets who are unable to attend the ceremony, and sometimes we even thank the parents in attendance for raising the couple into being the law abiding citizens they may or may not be today. Do you want to roll a 20 sided dice to see who gets to say their vows first? We can do that! Or maybe mix guacamole or build a lightsaber for your unity ceremony? Let’s do both! The possibilities are endless.
When I am not working my magic at weddings I enjoy relaxing at home with my two cats, Albert Noodles and Sir Winston, while binge watching true crime on YouTube and The Office or listening to my favorite music which is a genre called Nerdcore. Look up MC Lars, Schaffer the Darklord, Captain Dan & The Scurvy Crew, Mega Ran, MC Frontalot or mc chris (just to name a few) and give them a listen – you’ll thank me later.
One weekend a year I attend a cosplay convention called Megacon where attendees dress in costume as some of their favorite characters from pop culture, comics, video games, tv shows, movies, etc. My past costumes have been Nyan Cat, Grumpy Cat, She-Ra Princess of Power, Princess Peach, and most recently Wendy from Wendy’s Hamburger Restaurant. Next year I think I may add “Ms Frizzle” from the Magic School Bus series.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
The writers block is real. Sometimes I need to get a ceremony written but my brain just is not in writing mode. I could crank something out, but I feel as though it just isn’t doesn’t flow as well as when the writing comes easy. After a case of writers block, when I get inspired to sit and create a couples love story I drop everything and get to work.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being consistent with my processes, attending networking events and arriving on time are two huge ways I built my reputation. When a couple is looking for a non-traditional Wedding Officiant my name pops into vendors minds and I absolutely love that!
