We were lucky to catch up with Catherine Nuñez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Catherine , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents have always been supportive of my creative pursuits, encouraging me to follow my interests. I remember that when I was a teenager, my mom would wake up very early in the morning to take me to the bus so I could study out of town, and my dad would pick me up late at night after rehearsals. They have always been my biggest cheerleaders.

Catherine , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Catherine Nuñez, an actress born in Havana, Cuba, and currently based in New York.
I began my professional career at the age of 11, making my film debut in The Immobile Traveler (Dir. Tomás Piard). In 2011, the renowned Cuban director Fernando Pérez cast me in his historical film Martí, the Eye of the Canary.
In 2015, I performed on stages in Cuba and the Dominican Republic under the direction of Cuban playwright Jazz Vilá, starring in his award-winning plays Skyscrapers and Eclipse. Those productions later brought me to theaters in the United States, marking the beginning of my career in this country.
My passion for theatre led me to Washington, DC, where I joined GALA (Group of Latin American Artists), one of the largest Spanish-language theater producers in the United States. During my time there, I had the honor of performing in productions such as Dog in the Manger (Dir. José Zayas), Rosita, the Spinster (Dir. José Luis Arellano), In the Time of the Butterflies (Dir. José Zayas), and Exquisite Agony (Dir. Nilo Cruz).
In 2021, I made my New York debut with Teatro Círculo’s production of Life is a Dream (Dir. Mariano de Paco). The following year, I took the Miami stage as the lead in the hyper-realistic drama The Weepers (Dir. José Eduardo Pardo).

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In the acting industry, I’ve faced rejection nearly 90% of the time. The fact that I’m still auditioning, collaborating, working, producing, and creating my own opportunities is, to me, the greatest expression of resilience I’ve developed. Choosing hope, curiosity, and creativity in today’s world is a truly brave act.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I highly recommend the book The Artist’s Way to anybody. It has helped me greatly expand my creativity.
