We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Catherine Gomes . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Catherine below.
Hi Catherine, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
If I could go back in time, I would definitely had started Cathy’s Jewels sooner…. I always found myself attracted to fashion and beauty but working as a Make up Artist and Aesthetician did not fulfill all of my goals. During the pandemic, when runways, events and beauty salons were all closed, I decided to build on my dream of being my own boss in a field I am passionate about, and decided to start Cathy’s Jewels. Now that I started my own business, I realized that I finally found myself and that Cathy’s Jewels would have been in a more advanced stage should I had started sooner. I believe that everything happens for a reason, my past experiences were all necessary for me to learn more about myself and my career goals and get me where I wanted to be today, making my business dream come true.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m Catherine and I’m originally from São Paulo Brazil. My journey started with just a suitcase, determination, and a heart full of courage at the young age of 17 when I moved to Japan in search of my dreams. It was through working as a model that I discovered my passion for fashion, beauty, photography and everything that involves creating a look for a photo shoot. To my surprise, the clothes weren’t the only focus… the jewelry was also a very important factor. I was also always in love with art and in 2010 I graduated from the Panamerican school of arts in São Paulo. In 2015 I moved to New York and started my career working at fashion shows as a makeup artist and then pursued studies and acquired licensing in skin care treatments and worked at one of the leading Beauty Salons. While working, I discovered what I liked, what worked for me, and in turn, clients, co-workers, and friends would always ask me where my jewelry was from. When the pandemic and lockdown started, I decided that I would undertake in a world I was always passionate about, and that would be Fashion accessories. That’s when the idea of creating Cathy’s Jewels was born in 2022, from the desire to develop a business with love and a goal to make people feel more beautiful, created my line Cathy’s Jewels, which consists of unique hand picked, delicate and elegant pieces of Semi-fine Jewelry.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I sell on my site…. I decided to build my own website to be able to freely manage and show my brand as it really is free from constraints set by big online retailers. The only downside is that you will have to focus on your own marketing, major platforms give you more visibility online. Online commerce is the future, and attracting potential clients to your website is key to a successful business.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Active social media accounts and posts are the best new source of clients in this new age. Another option would be setting up live displays so that potential clients can actually see the pieces and feel the quality.
