We recently connected with Catherine Feeny and have shared our conversation below.
Catherine , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I think each project we work on is the most meaningful until we work on the next project. What is meaningful to us shifts and transforms as we change and grow.
My most recent project (and most meaningful ☺️) included a more collaborative songwriting process than any previous album — that was special. And at the center of that process wasn’t self-expression, but connection to Spirit and Divine presence, which invited us into a more transcendent experience. At the best of times, writing is spiritual but this was more intentional.

Catherine , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started playing open mics in Los Angeles, and connected with a thriving musical community. I met my husband there — we fell in love while we worked on my second album together. He was a producer as well as being a songwriter himself. We recorded the album in England, and through his connections there I was able to find management who got me a deal with EMI.
The record industry is fickle and the deal didn’t last long. But it got my music out there and opened some doors to me. I was fortunate to have supportive people in my life who helped me keep going.
In terms of artistry, I think I am proudest of my lyrics. I find the most magic there.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I was very fortunate to play lots of shows at art centers in Europe — places where communities come together to experience music and other kids of art. Public funding for the arts is amazing and feeds the creative ecosystem.
Artists can also make it a point to gather and support and encourage eachother.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding part of being an artist is helping facilitate an encounter with the Divine.
