We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Catherine Delcin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Catherine below.
Catherine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Early in your career, how did you think through the decision of whether to start your own firm or join an established firm?
I began my legal career with an eagerness to learn and an unwaivering devoted interest in providing legal services to existing businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs. I understood then, the best way to serve the business community is to acquire the necessary legal skill set. This began with completing an Honors Program at Golden Gate School of Law with a curriculum geared towards practical experience. In that program, I completed 6 internships, including a fellowship with the San Francisco, Trial Lawyers Association by the time I graduated in 2010. After graduating, I took on further work opportunities before starting Delcin Consulting Group in 2011. It was not a tenuous decision to start, I have found that the hard part is the journey itself. I have never regretted the decision to start a firm. I am thankful each and every day to be able fulfill this lifelong dream.

Catherine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Delcin Consulting Group begun in 2011 to provide legal services to existing and aspiring entrepreneurs [for profit or nonprofit] in business formation, transactions and litigation. Over the years, the scope of the firm increased to offer additional services for civil & commercial litigation, intellectual property and several general practice areas including immigration. Our firm offers a unique value proposition of hybrid services which includes a component of consulting in addition to the legal services for all of our practice areas. To date, our greatest accomplishments include sustaining long term client relationships, our litigation success rate, and the diversity and breadth of experience of our team.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Undoubtedly, maintaining a steady flow of clients is critical to the growth and success of any firm or business. Our client acquisition effort focuses heavily on new client referrals. Leveraging our existing clients’ satisfactory experiences has enabled us to create a path for continued referrals. Referrals have been one of best source of acquiring new clients.

Let’s talk M&A – we’d love to hear your about your experience with buying businesses.
We recently launched Delcin-Zilpa Law Group, PA, a federal law practice and immigration firm in Boca Raton, Florida. This firm was founded to soothe a growing need in the community for immigration services. The firm is at its infancy and of course is experiencing all of the challenges that a new business faces. Despite relevant past experiences, it is a balancing act to develop and grow this firm.
