Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Catherine Baumhauer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Catherine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I am a an artist and a mother of three young children ages 12, 14 and 16. I spent the first part of their lives staying at home with my kids and trying to keep up my art though it was challenging to do both.
Catherine , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a painter based in Los Angeles. I make paintings that reflect a growing universe where language and communication are less concrete. Personal symbols and emotive washes of color synthesized from the natural world around me create a visual language for the viewer to decipher.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is when a viewer finds connection or resonation with my work. I want my art to remind the viewer to seek awe and wonder in their own personal life as a way to connect with the universe as a whole.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think people need to consider supporting local artists and creatives as a way to propel a creative ecosystem. In doing so, we can forge ahead with less commercialization and capitalism.
