Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cat Haus Collection. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cat Haus , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
It’s hard to get past the societal expectation of having a regular 9 to 5 job and the founders of Cat Haus Collection are not immune to that pressure. While most of our artists have dabbled in selling their creative works in the past, this collection has been an undertaking. Cat B is on disability for mental illness, so while she is compelled to constantly create, it can be difficult to organize and manage time, whereas Kat G has a full time job and children, so having the time to create can be a challenge. It would have been amazing to be able to start this collection sooner in life, but the pandemic allowed for some adjustments that wouldn’t have been possible any other moment in recent history. We’re excited to have grown in number and variety over the last year, so hopefully, we stumbled on the exact right time to get this going.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Cat Haus Collection features paintings, vinal art, handmade jewelry, home décor, quilts, plushies, plants, and more, available for purchase online or in person at local festivals and fairs. We accept and celebrate artists from all types of lives and our mission is to make selling and buying local art more accessible to busy artists and patrons. The majority of our artists are part of the LGBTQIA+ community and create art celebrating this fact. You can find us @cathauscollection on Instagram Cat Haus Collection on Facebook, or go to cathauscollection.com.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Our goal is to bring people together. We want to lift voices and help each other through strength in numbers, We want to share unique works by unique artists who might not otherwise have a chance to share their specific type of light with their community. We want to create.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
It’s a bummer that there is so much gatekeeping around the artistic community. Humans were made to create and admire. Self expression is ingrained in the universal human experience. You don’t have to spend $1,000 on a painting to support artists. Often we offer items as low as $3, but the thought of coming out to a craft fair, or going to someone’s personal artist page can be intimidating. You might feel like spending $3 is insulting to the creator, or that it won’t mean much in the long run. It does. Maybe it doesn’t pay the electric bill, but it reminds the artist that they make something people enjoy. That their effort is not wasted. And maybe you truly can’t afford it, or there’s nothing to your specific taste. Share. Post online. Tell your neighbor. It helps.
