We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cat Gomez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Cat, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I have been a licensed cosmetologist for 11 years now! Time flies when you’re having fun! For the past 11 years I have specialized in styling hair only. No cuts or color. My specialty is bridal hair. After cosmetology school I started working at a blow dry bar where I learned how to do blowouts and curls. Then I met my best friend Carolina Villanueva and she took me under her wing and taught me everything I know about bridal updos! I now work out of her salon just like we always dreamed! You can come see us at Pinned Salon in Grand Prairie, Tx. Something I wish we had when I was learning is all of the social media tutorial videos!

Cat, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I knew I wanted to be a cosmetologist my senior year of high school. I was always “extra” with my hair and makeup and always doing my friends hair. I didn’t even wait a month after high school graduation to start school at Paul Mitchell Dallas. My career I’ve been blessed to work at blow dry salons, pageants, celebrity clients, photoshoots, and weddings. My funnest job was at Babydolls Saloon, where I was the hairstylist for the dancers! My favorite part of my job is making my clients feel beautiful! I usually do hair for special events, so I am always honored being included on their special days.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When lockdown of 2020 happened all of my weddings and events were cancelled leaving me out of work. To make some extra cash I opened my store called Cat’s House of Bling where I sell hand blinged items. I started off with adding rhinestones to face mask and headbands. I opened a store on Etsy and a Facebook group and they kept me very busy! My store is still open and I have expanded my products to bling lash cases, bling cosmetic cases, bling shoes, and anything I can get a rhinestone on!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal with my businesses is to work for myself so I can make my own schedule and to show my baby boy he can have any life he wants and use his time how he wants.
