Cat and Emily, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

We are Cat Friel and Emily Adams, the proud owners of a wardrobe styling company based in Nashville, TN called Style Concierge. We offer a variety of services including personal styling, closet edits and consultations, and editorial styling including music videos, photoshoots, advertising, and more. We are completely infatuated with style and staying on top of the latest and best trends, but what makes our line of work so fulfilling and motivating, is the people we have the privilege of meeting and working with every day. Every client we come in contact with has a story, and a reason why they’re coming to us for guidance on their personal style and their identity. We know that no client is the same, and everyone has different goals they’re looking to achieve. We are inclusive of any and everyone and we always say we “turn into our client”. We put ourselves in their shoes, and we curate experiences based on what will serve them best. Styling and fashion is not just about buying pretty clothes and putting them together. It’s about feeling empowered on the inside when you feel confident and inspired by what you look like on the out. For us, it has never been about clothes, it’s about helping people feel their best and most confident selves.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?

Emily ran a successful small business boutique and was a retail buyer for the store for several years. She built an interpersonal client base of customers who trusted her styling advice and considered her to be “their stylist”. Cat comes from and extensive background of editorial styling for brands such as RuLaLa, Gilt Group, and Talbots. Fate would have it, Cat started working for the small business and it was a match made in heaven ever sense. The store closed it’s doors and left us wondering what was next for us. We created buzz around our community that we were still looking to work with our beloved customers and fun projects, and we decided to combine our skillsets and create Style Concierge. We believe that style goes beyond buying fashionable clothes. Style is about self expression and should come from an inner connection with, and an understanding of, your authentic self. At Style Concierge, we identify and develop your personal style, so you feel your best. We are also a creative hub for your individualistic styling needs, offering an array of services including personal, professional, and editorial. After our first week of launching our company, we applied our networking skills and booked a job styling the background cast and dancers for a Fitz and the Tantrums music video held in Los Angeles. Our jobs and projects have stayed consistent ever since.

Prior to launching Style Concierge, we traveled extensively to research fashion trends and observe style through a new perspective. We found inspiration everywhere we went, from the people we met, the buildings we visited and the colors that surrounded us. To us, green conveys a sense of security and peace, and feelings of calmness, refreshment, and growth. We have designed our process to be fun and stress free.

We love people and cultivating relationships. Often times there is a stigma of pressure around fashion and styling, and our mission is to simply help people feel their best. We are most proud of the environment and impression we leave with our clients and friends.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

We credit our reputation to our “yes” mentality. Unless it has no relevance to our line of work, we don’t turn down opportunities that can help us learn, grow, and make new connections. We pride ourselves for always remaining genuine and not being the most interesting person in the room, but the most interested. Our mission is founded on our love for people, cultivating relationships, and doing fulfilling work. We stay loyal to who we are and for these reasons we are respected and loved by our community.

Any advice for managing a team?

Over communicate, ask questions, and always be transparent. It is inevitable there will be times your team might disagree on an approach, or have feelings of frustration when people are on different pages of your situation. We work so well together because we have built trust within one another to be able to speak up when we have different viewpoints on certain topics. View a constructive conversation simply as a conversation, and remember that typically everyone has a common goal to grow the business and do what they feel is best. Give them the opportunity to speak freely about what that might be and find a common ground.

Celebrate the victories, even the smallest ones. Trust the process and be proud and excited for you and for your team and your accomplishments!
