Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cassy Velazquez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Cassy, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I was pregnant over 6 years ago, I struggled to find bioavailable prenatals that would help women with MTHFR genes like me. This genetic mutation makes it so that we can’t process folate into a form our bodies can use. 40-50% of people have this gene, yet the available vitamins and minerals were using cheap forms that just simply don’t work. I have been in the supplement industry for over 15 years, and it still baffles me that women’s health was largely overlooked and deemed as “not profitable” enough for companies to expand into. In 2024, I decided it was time to put this dream into a reality and created a company that focuses on bioavailable nutrients and helping real women with real problems. I wanted to build something that helps other women like me, using quality ingredients that have been studied and proven to work.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
A first-generation Asian-American and mom to two young boys, I’ve previously worked in R&D, Product Developement, and Brand Marketing for well-established CPG dietary supplement companies such as iHerb, Metagenics, Herbalife, and Arbonne.
What sets Fussy Mom apart from others is that the products are fully focused on Mom’s health and benefits to women and moms. It was important for me to build a brand centered around women’s health and to deliver trustworthy, research-based supplements women can feel good about taking and proud to share with others.
Motherhood is amazing, but it can also be draining and overwhelming. There are so many supplements that are aimed at women but not specifically tailored to someone who is experiencing the mom life. My goal is to help moms be smarter about their supplement choices so they are not wasting their money and are getting the benefits they’re looking for. I would love to for Fussy Mom to that “mom hack” every women can share with one another.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Don’t underestimate the power of your local community. When I first started, I wasted a lot of time and money on trying to reach a broad US audience via Instagram and TikTok. I had a higher purchase and repurchase rates from referrals of friends and family, and also through maker’s markets and mom-events that allowed me to speak to local shoppers.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I self-funded my business and all the startup investments. We didn’t go on any family vacation that year, we ate at home more than we wanted to, and we did not have major purchases or splurges. And because I couldn’t work in the same industry while starting this business, I had to invest everything I earned as a wedding photographer into Fussy Mom instead. I would say that if you wanted it enough, you would do everything you can to make it happen.
