We were lucky to catch up with Cassius Jennings recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cassius, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Life is all about taking risk. I took my first real risk at 16 selling all my shoes to buy my first camera without realizing it was my first big investment. To later on creating my film production company and learn how to manage a company to building clients and hitting the road from state to state building clientele all through word of mouth and social media from shooting many free videos just to create a name for myself and studying many hours on YouTube teaching my self how to operate the camera, editing, and coloring videos. So I could have the best quality and videos out there while being in school. My biggest risk was having guns pointed in the camera while shooting music videos but I show what is going on in my environment coming from where I’m from.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Cassius Jennings Aka (Counterpoint2.0) My story beginning when I was 16 and picked up a camera. This is where my journey began. I transitioned myself from a high school football player to a cinematographer with the decision to create a documentary about my teammates called “Road 2 states” I created a production company and jumped head first into this industry naming myself a music video director with almost no experience. I started from filming my football team to filming my first music video just before my senior year. I didn’t expect how far I would come with this I just was perfecting my craft. I have an uplifting mother who inspired me to work for the things I want. So, I got to work… I taught myself everything I know from YouTube and along the way had mentors to strengthen my work. After my freshman year of college and the beginning of the pandemic, I created a name for myself mostly in the (streets) of Miami to eventually traveling state to state from hitting Atlanta and making my way to Pittsburgh and the Midwest, landing my first big music video with Icewear Vezzo and lil Durk.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal has always to be the biggest in what I do as a video director and entrepreneur. To be able to share the world my vision with my work and inspire others while being one of the youngest to do it.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I had many challenges, it was not easy at all especially in the beginning. not knowing my worth led to many financial situations. All I hoped for was the ability to get booked each month all while still managing school. I had so much responsibilities to balance from school, my company, my clients and my craft. That was very tough at a young age and I found myself being the youngest on set. I have taken many losses but have learned from it and bounced back.
