We recently connected with Cassie Ogren and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cassie, thanks for joining us today. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
For every couple we work with and every wedding we plan, we plant a tree in our local community! This is not just a donation or a seed this is a tree that each couple can visit after their wedding day. We work with Tree Trust and Greener Futures which is a program through Tree Trust that “transforms lives and landscapes by engaging people to build skills for meaningful careers, inspiring people to plant trees, and making our community a greener, healthier place to live.” All in all, more weddings means more trees.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Yes, my name is Cassie and I started HoneyHill in 2020! More than anything, I love to spend time in my vegetable garden, read, travel and spend priceless time with my daughter, husband, friends and family. I feel very passionate about wasting less at weddings, we have a sustainable approach to the entire process in general. How can we partner with vendors who also waste less? How can we rethink printed and single use items? The options are endless and not as difficult as people may think. How can we create a beautiful, unique wedding design that is both elevated and low waste? This has had an impact on my personal life as well, as the way I work is also how I live, I want to leave this world a greener and more beautiful place for my daughter and the next generation. For a wedding brand to care about this matters. I believe people want to work with us for our very personal approach to wedding day management. Families matter, time matters and you only have about 12 hours to get it all right on the wedding day.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Absolutely, HoneyHill was my side business as I was a full time copy-writer at the time I started HoneyHill. I was aching for a more creative outlet and wanted to serve clients on a more personal level! At the time, I was a soccer coach, nordic ski assistant and picking up a few weddings as a venue manager at a local venue. All of these things taught me valuable lessons that I brought into my business today. I attribute my success to the friends who hired me at the beginning. I cannot thank these people enough. They were my first clients and I will never forget that support! I worked hard to connect with other vendors, learn from them and get my foot in the door ever so slowly. I feel so thankful to everyone who has mentioned, supported and cheered us on.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I love this question, Atomic Habits by James Clear. I am the worlds biggest fan of this book. I buy a copy whenever I can just to give out to anyone who hasn’t read it. I learned about habit forming and subsequently about business and how to be better by 1% every day which compounds and in no time, the results stick. I cannot recommend this book enough!
