We recently connected with Cassie Garcia and have shared our conversation below.
Cassie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Taking a risk… Twelve years ago, I was working for a plastic surgeon as a medical aesthetician. I had worked for other Doctors previously, so I had been in the field for 7-8 years. I started out in this industry working for an office who fortunately trained me from front office, to back and educated me further in aesthetics. I moved up and proved myself and was asked to help run one of their satellite offices on the other side of town (which was luckily close to home). I eventually moved on, furthered my training and continued to take every opportunity to learn everything I could about the business. I was very fortunate when I started in the aesthetic / cosmetic surgery industry because it was so new and there was so much to learn. Back then it wasn’t over saturated and so cutthroat as we see today; everyone was learning together. I had so many wonderful people in my life who helped me along the way, who helped train and guide me. I still have long term friendships with some amazing sales reps and coworkers that I met along the way. However, there were also downsides to this industry; because it was just starting to grow, working in a small doctor’s office back then you didn’t get many benefits, if any. Including paid vacation, holiday pay, medical insurance or 401K. Not to mention many of the surgeons can be extremely difficult to work for and not very nice.
The last plastic surgeon I worked for was a great surgeon but was not a very nice man. I was a single Mom with small children trying to raise them and working as hard I could. I constantly had to fight for my commission pay and work in an environment where everyone was miserable. I finally decided I couldn’t do it anymore. I knew I had a great clientele and I told myself, what’s the difference of working with someone who doesn’t offer any types of benefits or working for myself? I could be happy and do what I love and not have to worry about working for someone who was awful and did not appreciate his staff.
I knew I could do better. I took the plunge… I walked out and never looked back. I took a risk and in March of 2011 I opened my door to Renew You Esthetics.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My career as an Aesthetician began when the medical spa industry was just beginning to emerge. In my 18 years in this industry, I have worked alongside Houston Plastic Surgeons, taught as a professor for Laser Hair Removal courses, and operate my own independent Medical Spa in the Clear Lake Area. My specialties are Laser Hair Removal, Intense Pulse Light (IPL), Sylfirm (RF MIcroneedling), Laser Tattoo Removal, Injectables, Chemical Peels, and Facials. I prioritize my client’s comfortability and ensure my clients feel confident in their skin. I pride myself in having a personal connection with my clientele and fulfilling their needs to feel pride in their looks.
