Alright, Cassie Davis, Brittany Barbosa & Stephanie Oliver thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Brittany, oldest of the three sisters, was inspired to create Fawn & Sable in 2013 while planning her own wedding when she noticed the limited representation and inclusion of Black brides across the wedding industry. She was looking for herself in every bridal magazine and Pinterest pin as she scoured all of the popular bridal inspiration sites, but seldom found it.
In 2014, she elicited the help of her sisters, vowing to address this concern by creating a media platform that could inspire all brides by featuring Black women.
For almost 6 years, the three of us bounced ideas around for how to launch Fawn & Sable. We went through some ideas, names and “soft” launches before finally perfecting our mission, goal and purpose. It wasn’t until June 2020 that we decided to launch our brand. In a year, like 2020, filled with tragedy for the Black community, it was the perfect timing to create a brand to showcase the beauty of Blackness in the bridal industry.

Fawn & Sable is a digital publication that showcases and celebrates the modern and discerning Black bride throughout the journey of matrimony. We aim to inspire all brides by featuring Black women in our content on our blog, Instagram, Pinterest and Tiktok. Our goal is to be the place for women to go and be inspired by the beautiful and awe-inspiring wedding that our brides have.
What sets Fawn & Sable apart is that we feature the entire range of weddings from the quaint backyard elopement to the grand ballroom event – all Black brides have a place on Fawn & Sable. No two weddings that we feature look exactly alike, and we love that!
We’re most proud of the ability to stay true to our mission in such a fast-paced and ever-changing industry. Fawn & Sable is a platform where brides can view tastefully-curated wedding galleries and one-of-a-kind content; a place where they can see themselves as brides and be inspired, and we haven’t strayed from that since our origination.
How’d you meet your business partner?
The three of us are sisters, which is one of the reasons why Fawn & Sable is so special to us! Inside and outside of “business hours,” we have a bond that is unmatched. The three of us can truly lean on one another as life changes and progresses to better our brand.
It also gives us the opportunity to bond through something more than family. We’re building a community of brides that stand behind the Fawn & Sable mission by submitting their weddings. Each and every feature is carefully curated and written with so much love. We take the time to get to know each bride’s story as if it is our own before we feature them.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
While we don’t have “clients,” per se, we do consider our brides a part of the Fawn & Sable family, and treat each of them as our favorite “customer.”
The most effective strategy from growing our brand has been creating and maintaining industry contacts. The wedding industry is vast, and it could be easy to get lost in the constantly changing trends and number of businesses catered towards brides. To gain our footing, we focused on our niche and built a community of like-minded entrepreneurs, business owners, and side hustlers to develop mutually beneficial industry relationships! This was especially important for us on social media as we began to grow our following.
