Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m Cassidy Crail, co-founder of C Squared Social, a digital marketing company that I started with my younger brother Caleb. We’re part of a family of seven, all of whom now work at C Squared Social. Caleb and I were inspired to become entrepreneurs by our father, who founded Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Despite not having a marketing background, we were driven to start C Squared Social because we had personally experienced the need for high-quality marketing services when we were franchisees at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. What we saw wasa lack of great solutions available, so we decided to create our own company that was focused on meeting the needs of our clients. Today, we’re proud to stay true to our roots of providing high-end marketing solutions to businesses of all sizes. We have worked with thousands of companies ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 brands, and our innovative and effective marketing strategies have helped them grow and succeed.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
When Caleb and I started C Squared Social, we had no access to seed funding. Our father’s advice was for us to meet with a business banker, explain our business plan and establish a credit line. We quickly realized this advice was outdated and business banking relationships were a thing of the past (at least at the start-up level). The banker politely listened to our pitch, and then had us fill in a couple fields on the computer where an algorithm spit-out a calculation that we qualified for a $2,000 pre-paid credit card (why even put a limit on a pre-paid??). We ended up selling our cars and using the money to hire our first employees. We’ve grown the business entirely on cash flow ever since.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivoting is essential for the long-term survival of any business, especially in the fast-paced technology and marketing industry. At C Squared Social, we encourage our teams to regularly review and assess our products, operations, and other key areas of the business, with the goal of making noticeable changes within 6-month periods. This helps us stay ahead of the curve and avoid falling behind in an increasingly competitive landscape. One interesting example of pivoting at C Squared Social was when we had to shift our focus away from the frozen yogurt industry. In the very early days of our company, we worked almost exclusively with frozen yogurt companies. However, the combination of the highly seasonal nature of the product and the overall decline of the frozen yogurt industry forced us to diversify our customer base. It wasn’t easy to turn our back on an industry that made up 95% of our portfolio, but we knew it was necessary for our long-term survival. Within 12 months, frozen yogurt represented less than 5% of our portfolio.
