We were lucky to catch up with Cassandra Waterhouse recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cassandra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
It is a huge part fo my brand to make sure the customer feels appreciated. Its down to the littlest details that can make someone feel so special and appreciate. My most favorite way to show my gratitude and appreciation for clients is by including a thank you card and following up with a thank you email. I’ve been drawing up a plan for next year on how I can show and make my current and previous clients feel the love and appreciation for their support. They are truly the heart of this company and keep it thriving so it’s important to me to be able to portray and make them feel that.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Originally my entrepreneurship started in 2020. I knew I had always wanted to be my own boss but I just didn’t know what field I wanted to go in. 2o2o a lot changed in the world and I had time to really slow down and sit with myself. I knew my passions for content creating, design, and events is what set my soul on fire so whatever I did it needed to in some shape or form include a marriage of all the things I loved. In 2020 my bestie got engaged and I helped her man plan, coordinate and set up the proposal. It was so magical and such. special time I knew I was on the right track to being my own boss babe. Fast forward to 2021 where I was asked to my friends Maid of Honor and I found myself diving deep into planning and coordinating her bridal shower. She wanted a boho picnic of some sort. A couple Pinterest boards later, I was so inspired I found myself at Home Depot purchasing wood to build custom wooden tables. Diving head first into tis project, I could feel that this was the start of something for me. On the day of the bridal shower she was in tears of excitement that her and the guest couldn’t stop talking about how amazing the picnic set up was and the decor and it was in that moment I knew that I wanted to create a picnic and event rental business and The Picnic Babe was born!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Fun little back story on The Picnic Babe. I didn’t originally stumble upon this concept for business. Originally in 2020, I just started by brainstorming names and picking one and running with it. At the time I was providing services within marketing, photography, decor & backdrop rentals, and coordinating. I chose this with my previous background in working in the wedding events industry but tied in my studies in marketing from college. I had bit off more than I could chew and was getting burnt out trying to figure out my branding and managing other business and events. I could feel the fire kind of dwindling and feeling lost with where I was going with my business. It truly wasn’t until my friend got engaged that things started to really transform for me. It truly was the day she asked me if I would be able to host and curate a bridal shower picnic that I realized that this was a niche that I wanted to be in. I was so inspired during the planning of her shower that I instantly came up with the name, had a plan already mapped out for a year and was ready to hit the ground running again. This was a huge pivot in my career because I had to completely rebrand. It was hard to do at first wondering if I was doing the right thing but I followed my gut and said goodbye to the old business and I’ve never looked back since!
