Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cassandra Montenegro. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cassandra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back on your career, have you ever worked with a great leader or boss? We’d love to hear about the experience and what you think made them such a great leader.
The foodie community is so large. I’ve been lucky to have been taken under some of their wings. Eva from @stxfoodie has been one of my best mentors. She is my hype girl and my confidante. She inspires me to really go out of my way to set a spotlight on small businesses. She is so selfless and always wants to make sure everyone around her can succeed.

Cassandra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What started out with just me snapping pics of my daily dinner plates turned into my love letter to the food culture of San Antonio. I love San Antonio and I want to celebrate the city by showcasing the diverse foods we have to offer. I’m proud that everything I show on instagram is 100% unapologetically me. The ugly food pictures of food that I had or made, the no makeup selfies to the curated photos. It’s a direct reflection of me and my life.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I needed to unlearn was you have to be flexible and adapt. When Instagram reels came out, I did not enjoy making them so instead of adapting to the change. I continued to only make static posts. Then I noticed my content views were going down. I was doing a dis-service to places I wanted to highlight by not being flexible to Instagram’s ever changing algorithms. I needed to get un-stuck from what made me comfortable and adapt to ensure I am shining a bright enough light on businesses rather than dimming that light.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience by just being me. The good, the bad, the ugly, and the funny. Showing the world that I am a person and not just a “persona” on instagram has helped my build relationships with my followers. It’s helped me find local gems that I might not have ever gone unless I hadn’t received that DM recommendation. Being personable and interacting with your following is truly the best thing you can do!
