Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cassandra Bolden. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cassandra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
At the very beginning, I often thought or wished that we had started our business earlier than the year of 2019 and I say that because we are having a blast growing and working in our business that I sometimes wonder how much more fun we could have had if we’d started earlier. Truth is… we started our business in the season which was designed for us to start. Prior to 2019, we were not equipped to start our candle business or build-out our basement to accommodate such business. With a background in sales and marketing, I was able to pour those skills into our business at the time of our inception and use those skills as tools for training. Starting our business before 2019 may have presented us with several hiccups, so I am satisfied with when Lit Moments Candle Company was started.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am the wife to an incredibly supportive husband, mother to four adorable kids and GG to 6 beautiful grandkids!
I first embarked on candlemaking years ago as a hobby and something that would ease me into the weekend. I was looking for something that was therapeutic and enjoyable. One day, I decided to go to Michael’s to see what craft sparked my interest. It didn’t take long before the candlemaking kit caught my eye.
Fast forward years later, my daughters and I were having a girl’s night out at my mom’s house, and we sort of all at once blurted “we should make this our family business”, and we did just that! What began as a night of mommy-daughter time quickly evolved into something remarkable. A moment that was once set aside as family-time for growth and fellowship, quickly grew into so much more. Once a hobby, now a beautiful business that we can share with fragrance lovers everywhere. From creating scents using raw materials, to thoughtfully naming our products, we consistently sharpen our craft at designing intriguing and sensual scents that will delight senses and create moments to cherish a lifetime.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When we first started out on social media, we used to think that the number of ‘followers’ should always be top of mind. For us, that is not entirely true. We found that when we stopped counting our followers and just simply shared our stories surrounding our scented products, we would gain true, organic followers. My advice would be to just tell your story. Everyone loves to hear the backstory of a business and its products.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Our goal is to create meaningful relationships with all of our buyers. Of course, we want them to purchase our products over and over again, but our main goal is to always create relationships. For our online customers, we utilize newsletters (thank you, Canva) to keep them in the know about upcoming deals and just to express our gratitude for their continued loyalty.
For our retail-partners, we make it our priority to reach out to them at least 4 times a year, and we sometimes have a small token of our appreciation deliver to them. During the holidays we send our partners cards to wish them and their loved ones a joyous holiday season.
