Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Casper Frink. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Casper, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I feel like each tattoo I create with my clients is meaningful in it’s own way. Being a tattoo artist takes so much trust. I create permanent art on my clients skin, something they’ll carry with them everywhere. Every day. That means the world to me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I originally got into art through cartooning and character design. I never really felt like working in animation was for me though. Then I got my first tattoo. I fell in love with the craft immediately, became obsessed with it. Any tattoo related content I could find I would watch or read. I started teaching myself with any information I could find. After 2 years I finally got into tattoo school. From there I got my license and a job at Sacred Art Tattoo in Corvallis.
I’m so proud to be a tattoo artist. To be entrusted with peoples bodies. To be told that my art is good enough that people want to carry it with them. It’s an honor, not a privilege.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
My art is out there in the world, walking around and living. Not in a gallery. not on a screen. When I tattoo someone, they are saying “I love this so much, I want it to be a part of me”. It’s such a compliment to me and the work I’ve put into my craft. There is no other creative field like it.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Understanding the work that goes into creation. With the introduction of AI into artistic fields, people think that creating art is as simple as typing out a few words. It’s not. When you’re supporting an artist, you’re supporting all the work they’ve done to get where they are today. It takes time to learn these skills. It takes time to utilize them to create something wonderful.
