Casie, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
If I could go back in time, I wish I would have started my DJ career at least 10 years ago. Not very many people know this about me, but I started my DJ’ing journey at the age of 35, YES, 35! 3 years later, looking back, my biggest regret is not starting sooner. While I have been active in the club world since I was 16 years old, I didn’t start getting involved in EDM music till 2016 when I went on a trip to Berlin, Germany, where I went to the infamous Tresor night club. Ever since that night, I can never get enough of that bumping music and good vibes. At that time in my life, I was working for a non-profit organization, dealing with international affairs and diplomacy, obviously the polar opposite of the music world in every way, but nonetheless, I knwe that regardless of what my day job was, I knew that the EDM world was something that I wanted to explore more and more as time went on. I think that if I would have started on this path sooner, obviously I wouldn’t be as tired at after parties, but most importantly, I would have more experience and time to be able to achieve the goals I want to. While starting to DJ at 35 isn’t THAT old, oftentimes I feel like I have to speed up everything that I want to do in my DJ career so I can achieve it all in a shorter amount of time. But the most rewarding part of being this old and DJ’ing reminding people that you can start doing something that you love and are passionate about at any age. Don’t ever let age hold you back! Do what makes you happy, even if that means going against what society tells you that you should be doing by a certain time in your life.

Casie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I grew up in the well known hip-hop city of Houston, Texas, where I have been out and about in the club and nightlife scene since I was 16 years old. The arts have greatly influenced my life since the age of 3, when I started dancing, and continued this passion through later in my life as I attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and later the University of Arizona, for dance. I started my DJ’ing career at The DJ School Dallas in 2020, and since then, I have been making my rounds in a wide variety of venues and making myself known for my high-energy sets filled with funky tech house tracks and innovative looping. During the past three years, I have had the opportunity to play at venues throughout Texas including, but not limited to, the infamous #saltbae steakhouse, Nusr-et, where I am a resident DJ, Komodo, and I have also played in New York City, Oklahoma, and all over Texas. In the past 2 years, I have been support for DJ’s such as Oostil, Gettoblasters, Mike Dunn, Bruno Furlan, Offaiah, and DJ Swisha, and most recently, I played at Burning Man, where I closed for Crystal Method. I was also featured on the cover of the Dallas Observer in 2021 and most recently, featured in Voyage Dallas as well.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being a DJ is having the ability to create positivity in someone’s life through sharing music. There is nothing like seeing the smiles on peoples faces, the crowd letting loose, and people grooving to the music that you are playing. I am beyond grateful that DJ’ing allows me to create a moment, and not just any moment, a moment of joy and happiness, in someone’s life.
