Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Poppy’s path into the world of performance and education has been a colorful one, rooted in a deep love for creativity and community. As a mother to three beautiful children—Wesley, Winifred, and Watson—I’ve always been passionate about creating spaces where inclusivity and joy thrive.
My introduction to the arts began at a young age, with a flair for the dramatic evident even in elementary school productions. Over the years, I honed my craft, gracing stages from California to Chicago and beyond, captivating audiences with my performances in web series, TV, cabarets, and even at the esteemed Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
However, it was my recent relocation to the Berkshires that ignited a new chapter in my journey. Inspired by the warmth and camaraderie of this tight-knit community, I founded Drag Story Hour Berkshires—a groundbreaking initiative that combines my passion for drag, storytelling, and education.
Through Drag Story Hour Berkshires, I aim to create a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and celebrated. By weaving together the artistry of drag with the timeless tradition of storytelling, we foster empathy, understanding, and acceptance in children and adults alike.
What sets Drag Story Hour Berkshires apart is its ability to transcend entertainment, serving as a catalyst for positive change within our community. As a Safe Space Certified Committee Member with Berkshire Pride, I’m committed to creating environments where diversity flourishes and where everyone feels welcome and valued.
I’m most proud of the impact Drag Story Hour Berkshires has had on our community. From enchanting performances to engaging workshops, we’ve sparked conversations, challenged stereotypes, and inspired a new generation of storytellers and advocates.
Ultimately, what I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know is that Drag Story Hour Berkshires is more than just a performance—it’s a movement. It’s a celebration of individuality, a testament to the power of storytelling, and a beacon of hope for a more inclusive and compassionate world. I invite you to join us on this journey of joy, acceptance, and transformation.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is twofold: the ability to follow my own passions and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for both my family and the community we call home. As a mother to three wonderful children, it’s incredibly important for me to lead by example—to show them the importance of setting and meeting goals, of pursuing what sets their hearts on fire, and of making a positive impact in the world around them.
Being able to follow my own passions as an artist not only brings me immense personal fulfillment but also allows me to demonstrate to my children the importance of nurturing one’s creativity and staying true to oneself. Whether it’s through the vibrant performances of Drag Story Hour Berkshires or the engaging workshops we host, I strive to show my children that pursuing your dreams is not only possible but also incredibly rewarding.
Moreover, being an artist and creative also affords me the opportunity to make a difference for my family and our community. Through initiatives like Drag Story Hour Berkshires, I’m able to create spaces where inclusivity, acceptance, and joy thrive—values that I hold dear as a mother and as a member of our community. By instilling these values in my children and in those around us, I believe we can create a brighter, more compassionate world for generations to come.
In essence, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative lies in the ability to follow my passions, make a difference for my family and community, and inspire others to do the same. It’s a journey of self-discovery, growth, and impact—one that I’m honored to embark on each and every day.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One particular moment from my journey stands out vividly, serving as a testament to resilience in the face of adversity. It was during an event at a local library, held in celebration of the “International Day of Reading.” However, what should have been a joyous occasion was overshadowed by threats of protest, casting a pall of uncertainty over the proceedings.
Despite the looming tension, I witnessed firsthand the unwavering resolve of the library director and staff, who refused to let fear dictate their actions. With courage and determination, they pressed on, determined to uphold the values of inclusivity and education that lie at the heart of their institution.
As the event unfolded, something remarkable happened. Instead of facing opposition, we were met with an outpouring of love and support from the community. Over 30 adults gathered, brandishing signs of solidarity and standing as beacons of positivity in the face of adversity. Their presence spoke volumes, reaffirming my belief in the power of love and inclusivity to triumph over hate and division.
In that moment, I realized the profound impact of my mission—to spread joy, acceptance, and love through the art of drag. Despite facing skepticism and prejudice, I’ve remained steadfast in my belief that drag is a creative expression of self, transcending gender norms and inviting all to embrace their authenticity without reservation.
Through conversations sparked by questions about my identity as a woman in drag, I’ve had the privilege of educating and enlightening others about the true essence of this art form. Each interaction serves as a reminder of the importance of challenging societal norms and championing the right of every individual to express themselves freely and authentically.
In a world where discrimination and intolerance still rear their ugly heads, I stand proudly as a beacon of resilience and hope. As Poppy, I’m not just spreading joy—I’m sharing a message of love and acceptance that transcends barriers and unites us all in our shared humanity.
