We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cashmere Perkins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cashmere below.
Cashmere, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Yes! I’m happy as an creative. I think anything you do that involves “OTHER PEOPLE ” won’t be a walk in the park and even doing it alone won’t be as easy. You will have ups and downs. To me it’s more about what you learned from your mistakes/experiences, how you used the constructive criticism and last but not least how you bounce back from all of it. I’m sure many have thought about giving up after their first go round but I promise if they get through it THERE’S NO STOPPING THAT INDIVIDUAL. Most creative do what they love and have a passion for and that’s BEING CREATIVE AND PUTTING CONTENT OR EXPOSING THEIR OW LIVES AND TRUTHS FOR PEOPLE TO HAVE AN OPINION ON.No matter what people say you will have supporters and haters learn to Balance the two. I’ll never stop my day job for my creative work because no one is guaranteed to make it and until you get to a place where you know you can live comfortably off of YOUR OWNED CONTENT and being consistent with great entertainment. I think everyone should ALWAYS keep a side hustle/business that’s bringing in a great income. Some of many were on top, on the biggest networks and loss everything or because they signed a bad contract they lose all rights to what they created. So no I don’t wonder what it would be like I’ll always know what it will be like to have a job as a creative until I make it where I know I can be.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Yes I’m 32 years old, I’m a Capricorn and I was raised in BROWNSVILLE BROOKLYN. I’ve been writing poem, music, plays and films since I was in jhs until my adult life. I found the interest of reality tv over a course of years and decided to not hesitate but to for it. Once I spoke to my friends about my idea they pushed me to move forward and I did just that. My platform was created for young female entrepreneurs to be able to come together for a sisterhood through ups, downs and maybe even some fights this is reality tv not every show or every cast member will give you flowers and honey. But my biggest goal is to get them the right exposure by doing the right things and being able to promote their businesses while also showing we can figure our differences out without violence all the time. I truly believe NEW YORK CITY don’t really get the attention needed. People come for the talents and take them to other states or steal our style or ideas. If someone was gonna start a trend in NYC why not be me.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We aren’t at a million followers but I want to gain my followers naturally. Day by day we gain more followers which I’m fine with because numbers don’t lie and we are reaching ppl state to state. I decided to focus on people following when it comes to casting for marketing reasons as well as those with smaller followings they would have to work 10x harder. I invest in my platform ,I support other creatives by sharing their work or having them come to events. I’m not a major show sometimes you have to crawl before you walk. I’ve been blessed to work with Legends of the reality tv world so that shows me what ever routes I’m taking to success it’s working. I stay pure, honest, focused and I keep God in my heart.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Honestly just studying none stop Educating myself on what I want to do because no one will for you. Very rare in this industry where someone will teach you so you can win. Even with hiccups through my self taught experiences I’ve gotten better in those areas in directing. Experiences only get better and better the more your work. Once you have a team with the knowledge to fulfill the rest of production you will learn from them . Once I built a solid team we learned from one another
