We were lucky to catch up with Casey Miller recently and have shared our conversation below.
Casey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Since 2018 my goal has been to find a way to create crossover between my professional career and personal interests. The idea of truly “loving what you do” feels so imaginary. Sure you might not mind your coworkers, but does your work still feel like work?
I’ve always been surrounded by coined “entrepreneurs”, but didn’t necessarily know what my personal path would be to become my own boss. Rather than taking the initial full risk of building my own business post-college, I chose to take the “safe” route by instead climbing the fortune 500 ladder and gaining experience from the experts in my field.
Casey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Using the general template I had curated from the few years experience I had gained working in an agency environment, I started to build one myself. I now own/operate a full-service digital marketing agency, am co-owner of an app & web development company, and am working on a few other passion projects & brands with similarly high potential.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Consistency and patience! Building my business has [by design] been a slow burn.
Taking my time to understand the proper processes for project management, client briefing, and project delivery have made it easy for me to maintain consistent and genuine rapport with each of my clients.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The hardest part of entrepreneurship for me was unlearning the workplace structure I had come to lean on from my previous corporate positions. Aside from not physically clocking in/out, there’s a TON of ambiguity when it’s something that you’re building from scratch. Working in different industries and company types has helped me build a unique structure that works for MY business, and it’s something that’s constantly evolving.
