We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Casey Jordan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Casey below.
Casey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t change when I started my business. I firmly believe in the power of timing; every experience I had before launching my business shaped who I am today.
I began my journey as a bartender, a role that taught me invaluable skills—communication, upselling, and customer care. While it paid the bills and offered consistency, I wasn’t happy. I reached a point where I felt disconnected from my work and knew I needed a change.
It was a TikTok video about a UGC creator that opened my eyes to a new possibility. I had never heard of UGC before, but I was drawn to the creative lifestyle and the potential for income. I dove deep into learning about it, realizing that this path could be both enjoyable and financially rewarding.
I started with UGC, which opened doors to social media management. It’s ironic how timing works; I once worked for a company where I created content using Canva, which made me very knowledgeable in that tool. After that position ended, I continued focusing on UGC. Then, as I transitioned into social media management, I found myself needing to provide graphics for specials and events. It goes to show that timing is everything, and things happen for you in ways you might not understand at first.
Now, my journey has led me to a five-figure monthly income, and I’m in the process of expanding and establishing my own creative agency, called Slate Collective. I chose this name to reflect the creative style I embody and am drawn to. Slate is a strong, sturdy stone—minimalistic, elevated, and moody. “Collective” represents unity; I want my team to love working with Slate and to foster a family-like environment.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Casey, and my journey into social media management, marketing, and content creation began with a genuine passion for bringing visions to life and helping others succeed. I started as a UGC creator and quickly discovered how much I loved the creative process, which naturally led me to delve deeper into social media management and marketing.
In my work, I specialize in creative direction, brand vision, managing social accounts, graphic design, and content creation for a variety of businesses. My goal is to craft engaging experiences that resonate with audiences, helping clients communicate their messages through expressive imagery that captivates and evokes emotion.
What sets me apart is my consistency, unique vision, and commitment to making a difference for my clients. I believe in fully embodying the brand during the creative process, which allows me to connect deeply with my clients and deliver tailored solutions that meet their specific needs.
I’m most proud of the progress I’ve made, especially during times when it felt like I was shooting in the dark; my determination never wavered. This journey reflects my growth and my dedication to delivering exceptional results.
To potential clients, followers, or anyone interested in this field, I want you to know that everyone starts somewhere, often without a clear path, and you have the power to create your own reality. I strive to foster trust, excitement, and a sense of community, and I’m thrilled to embark on this journey together.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One crucial lesson I had to unlearn while transitioning into this career was the belief that success comes easily or only to those who already have it figured out. I realized that everyone starts somewhere, often feeling lost and uncertain. It became clear to me that if something genuinely interests you, it’s worth diving deep and investing the time to learn everything you can about it. This sometimes meant missing out on parties and social events to focus on my growth and skills. But in the end, that commitment has been invaluable; putting in the effort has opened doors and transformed my passion into a fulfilling career. It’s a reminder that the hard work truly pays off.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been harnessing the power of word of mouth and building strong relationships. I believe that when you genuinely connect with a client and develop a true love for their brand, it creates a collaborative atmosphere where we both want to see each other succeed. By investing time in understanding their goals and challenges, I’m able to provide tailored support that genuinely makes a difference. This commitment to helping them thrive fosters trust and loyalty, and in turn, they become enthusiastic advocates for my work, spreading the word and bringing in new clients. It’s a beautiful cycle of mutual support that drives our success together.
