Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Casey Hodges. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Casey, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
What I think it takes to be successful is simply hard work and determination. I believe that anything you set your mind to, you can achieve. It may not always be easy, and things may not always go as planned, but as long as you’re determined to make something work along with putting in the work, I believe you’re bound to succeed.
Casey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always been into beauty products. Ever since I was a teen, I’ve always enjoyed doing makeup and reviewing beauty products. As I got older, I realized that I could be doing this professionally. And I did just that. I started my small business, “Queen It” Beauty Enhancements and I haven’t looked back since. The road hasn’t always been easy. There were many setbacks, but my determination never allowed me to give up. With this business, I offer makeup sessions (full-face, soft glam, eyelash extensions, etc.). I eventually will venture out with my own beauty products, but I’ll say we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I recently had to change my position in my day job. Only because I never had any time to work on my own business. It’s so easy to get caught up in a job and put your own dreams on the back burner. It’s okay to have a full-time position. I’m still working full-time, but not as many hours as before. I think it’s a good idea for me and anyone else with a business to use their full-time job to fund their business until you are eventually where you need to be, then pursue your dreams full-time.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As a make-up artist, I believe that when COVID came around, it made business slow for many of us. Around that time, I continued to work and perfect my craft. Even though a lot of things were being cancelled (weddings, photo shoots, etc.) I found that while all this was going on, there could be something I could be doing to make the quality of my work better. As business started to pick back up, I was able to offer my clients a much better experience. This was one setback that I became better from in the end. It won’t always go as planned, but if you’re determined, you will always find a way to succeed in anything you do.
