Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Casey Green. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Casey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The Tilly Project is a non-profit organization that helps set up people whose family pets are sick or dying with a photographer in their area to photograph their last moments. Its ironic that the first few professional gigs I did were end of life photos before I even knew about The Tilly Project. I immediately registered and now I am only one of two photographers in Alabama listed on the Tilly website that offers this service.
I have found that while these types of shoots can be very hard, it is a privilege to be welcomed into these moments. A lot of people, like myself, view pets as family and these deaths can be incredibly hard, The professional keepsakes are worth the tears. I have had many people reach out and tell me they wished they had done this with their pets.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into this originally from my marketing job and by helping another photographer with their socials and events. I really enjoy marketing and I would get really bothered having to wait for images and videos to come back from third parties so I just decided to start doing it myself. I am self taught, with some additional great teachers I have picked up along the way. I remember when I first started getting inquiries that I wanted to remain affordable. Photos are memories that are frozen in time, everyone deserves the keepsake. I come from an area with a lot of photographers and it can be a very congested market, I try to set myself apart by being affordable and easy to work with. I also ALWAYS will take a pet photoshoot. Any day of the week. I think one of the things that I would want people to know is that competition starts at the bottom, collaboration takes you a whole lot farther than trying to do it all on your own. I am very grateful for the help and the network I have created and experienced since I began. (Special shoutout to Matt Adams and Evergreen Creative Company)
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of this for me is when people show off your work without asking. When people post your photos on social media, tag you, leave a review, and I didn’t have to ask? Oh man, that is the best. ESPECIALLY when you are doubting how they look before you send them and then it ends up being a complete success. Nothing better.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to do this everyday. I’d love to eventually quit the 9-5 in the meantime, ya know? I believe every moment needs to be captured. And I want to be the one to do it, from Weddings to End of Life to a mushroom after a rainstorm, I want to be there.
