We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Casey Carpenter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Casey below.
Casey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Life changer.
I left a job of 19+ years right after Covid.
Whoa, what do I do now!? Covid shut down my industry for 65 days and I had A LOT of time to think and decompress.
Take time off, career shift, work for myself…my mind was going through all the options.
Blink Lashes and Brows.
I heard it. Sounds weird right!? But really, it just popped in my head.
Ok, now what. You start.
I found my way to working for myself after a career working for someone else.
Freedom.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have been in the esthetics (skin care, waxing, makeup, facials, lashes, etc.) industry since 2000. After my schooling I worked for a large spa in my town for 19+ years. My job included everything from doing services on clients, educating staff and clients, working at the front desk, to laundry and spa tasks.
At first, I specialized in facials and makeup which also allowed me to offer product knowledge to my clients and provide them with high quality skin care and makeup to use at home. I sold a lot! I loved it.
As my confidence grew I went into training new staff in esthetics which I also loved. There’s something about sharing your knowledge to the new generation of people coming into the industry that was so fun and rewarding.
Then in 2008, lash extensions were just on the cusp of getting really big so I got certified in lash extensions. Novalash certified. And my career shifted.
I was able to only take clients that requested to see me in facials, waxing, and lashes. I was booked solid.
Maybe too busy.
I’ll be honest. I over stayed at that job. By a good 5-10 years. But you can’t go back in time. It only helped my experience as a person and gave me A LOT of experience in my industry, and a great clientele base.
Then Covid hit. My industry got shut down for 65 days. Couldn’t work. Clients couldn’t get services done. Shut down!
Now it’s time to come back to work.
It didn’t feel right.
So I left. Shockingly. To everyone including myself.
And my story begins of working for myself.
Blink lashes and brows was born.
June 17 2020 my new life began.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media for myself has been everything! It’s free! When Covid shut us down that was how I still got to chat with my clients I’ve gotten to know over the years. (Now at that point I had no idea yet that I was leaving my long standing job).
My clients are my people. My confidants. My friends and family.
Social media is the best platform to not only stay in constant contact with people, but to show your work.
Take pictures, use hashtags, tag brands, and share share share!
It’s a great platform to have people message me through also. You can go back and look at messages to confirm appointments. It’s so clean and easy.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I opened my business, working for myself, I thought I still wanted to do everything. You just can’t.
I had to stop doing facials and helping people with their skin care needs. I don’t think I’ve ever struggled with a decision so much. I loved it.
When I do get the chance to help someone through skin care questions or needs, it really does still light me up. I’m always going to be open to educating.
But I was getting too busy with lash extensions. I had to chose.
