We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Casey Anderson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Casey , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your business and how did you resolve those issues?
There are always challenges in business from finding your next client to being prepared in handling negative press. When I first started out, I had a large client that made a mistake and was receiving some pretty bad press. These situations can be difficult to navigate and balance as any comment could be spun in a negative context. To resolve this, the first thing I advised was to remove emotion from the equation and admit the mistake. We then devised a feel good PR campaign moving forward. It took a lot of dedication, time and investment for the client but ultimately we overcame the challenge. Making mistakes happen and knowing how to work through them can make all the difference.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Casey Anderson owner of Casey Anderson Consulting. I provide business services to both non-profit and for-profit businesses in the area of Operations, Profitability, Marketing, Strategy, and Public Relations. Having worked in the corporate world I just couldn’t get over how many businesses really needed help. So many times I would talk to organizations that were taken advantage of or had a project that they couldn’t afford a full-time staff for…this is what inspired me to start Casey Anderson Consulting. An entrepreneurial firm that becomes an extension of other businesses and organizations to overcome a challenge. When I complete an outcome for a business, it is with such pride, as I know I am leaving the organization in a better place and that makes me happy.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media is constantly changing and there is a lot of noise on social channels, so you have to be swift and relevant. My best advice is to figure out what channels make sense for you company. Then be the expert on your business. A new business should post at minimum 3-5 times weekly. The posts should be relevant and always tie into your business. For example, my business does marketing and social media, so at least once a week I will find relevant articles trending and post them. Use different mediums can build you presence. People learn and remember in different ways, so use words, pictures, videos, when posting.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients are referrals from existing or past clients. You have to understand once a client always a client. The projects or asks may vary but most of my clients become clients for life based on my business model. Referrals are great because there is already a bit of expectation of what they can expect by working with me.
