We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carter Skyers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carter below.
Carter, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I’ve been in the performing arts for most of my life, although the major jump in my skillset as a singer stems from my work with my producer and writing partner; Stevie Bensusen. We’ve been working together for just about a decade now, which is absolutely incredible!
Attention to detail has been the most important piece of my development. Quality takes time, so I don’t really feel that there is anything that would have accelerated my growth. When I graduated high school in 2019, I made my music career my full time dedication. The last 4 years have been non-stop growth as an artist, live performer, and songwriter.
Obstacles come in all shapes and forms, but it comes down to how you move through, over, or around them. I’ve got an amazing team that supports me, and that has been a major help.

Carter, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Music has always been a large part of my existence. Songwriting started as another form of expression for me when I was 11. I’ve definitely grown as a songwriter, especially since writing with Stevie.
I like to describe myself as a new pop artist with an old soul. That ‘old soul’ definitely shines through in my lyrics.
Even though I’ve been singing for what feels like forever, I’m just at the beginning of my career. Especially as an artist releasing my original music. The EP that I’ve been working on has deepened my relationship with music in such a beautiful way. That appreciation resonates through the whole project. Needless to say, I’m super excited for everyone to finally hear the new music.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Overall, I wan’t people to know that they aren’t alone. A lot of things in life can feel really isolating. It helps to know someone shares your experience in some form or another.
My music stems from that goal; which honestly pushes me to be more honest in my lyrics.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Perfectly conveying a thought or feeling within a song or music video! Ideas are such a complex part of who we are as people, so it is always satisfying to fully express something that truly starts from within.
